Don Sawchuk - Kitchener, ON posted a condolence
Monday, March 23, 2009
After the death of my Dad, Uncle Don was like a father to me. Don was kind, gentle and patient. Don was unpretentious, yet wise and prophetic. Don was never afraid to show his love, in word or deed. In his last days, Don bore his pain and suffering privately, so as to spare those he loved from sharing in that suffering.
The bible says we all fall short of the glory of God, but by His mercy and by the death and resurrection of His Son, we can have a place with Him in Heaven. I pray that God will welcome Don into His loving arms. And I pray too that he sends His Holy Spirit to comfort each of us who loved him.
Although this is a time of sorrow and grief, it’s also a time of great joy and celebration for the life Don shared with us as husband, father and friend while he was with us, and for the faith we hold in God’s promise of eternal life. Through God’s grace, I believe we will be reunited with Don. Until then we will remember him and miss him, but never stop loving him. Don was a precious gift to us and Heaven is richer now than it’s ever been before.

Hi Dee:
Lynda and I are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Don, one of our favorite people. We are also saddened that the years passed so quickly without our keeping in touch. We shared so many good memories! Memories at Coke, parties at the McMahons, trying to teach Don how to waterski on Lake Erie, New Years' Eve at the Desbiens where Don had Edmond showing us his Karate moves. Don was a great person, very giving, and always a real pleasure to be around.
He will be missed!
Our deepest sympathies!
Tom & Lynda Collins

I had the great pleasure of working with Don in Hamilton, and have some great and funny memories of our times together. Don was a good person, an understanding person, who sought to assist others. His memory will always be with me.

A few memories last forever in the case of Don and myself.Going back to when we were in grade school and hanging around the summer months at Memorial Park in Windsor playing baseball, pitching horseshoes and quoits. Don and I would whip anyone from other parks (on Field Days) in horseshoes and quoits andwin the precious ribbons and a box of cfracker jacks or a six ounce bottleof soda.(You would get two cents back on the bottle return.)After putting in a six hour day at the park we would walk back along the railway tracks and pick wild raspberries or strawberries or flowers whichwould be the likes of yellow wild buttercups or white wild lilies.(Don always said his mother liked when he brought these home.) Since we were already dirty from play all day, we would also pick up "big hunks" of coal on the sides of the rail tracks. The coal would fall off the back of the steam engines as the train was starting to gain speed. We would fill our T-shirts with the coal chunks and bring them home and throw them into the coal bins to be used in the stove or furnace come winter.(also to gain points with ma and pa).
All the above happenings were when we were eleven and twelve years old. There were many many stories too numerous to share in all the years we grew up together. I now know Don is rehashing many things with Dave and sharing many laughs. Lastly, Don was a great friend and a generous guy who really cared more about others around him. He will be missed by many many friends. See ya!
Yours in sport,
"The Grabber"
P.S.Sorry we cannot attend the Memorial Service tomorrow.
