Dear Whyte family,
We extend to you our sympathy and prayer at this time of the loss of your Mom. She was a great lady and will certainly be missed. Our memories of her include her involvement with the Hamilton Board of Education, her amazing plays at Philpott, her wonderful encouragement for people around her, the smile that gave all of us a lift. Ken and I enjoyed a fun visit with her on Feb. 1st where she gave us a tour of Alexander Place and we reminisced about teaching and people in education that we both knew. She was an inspiration to everyone around her and you will enjoy the memories you have of her. Love, Ken and Mary-Jane

We had a reunion sometime in the 1980"s , it look as if time had stood still for her, she had not changed a bit and She remember each and everyone one of us, by Names and she could tell you a story about each and everyone of us.That made her special because she never forgot you. God bless .

From: Marjorie Couture { Margie Courtemanche] I was a student at Agnes Macphail 1970 -1972. I was at the age that I did not want be a school so Mrs Whyte ask me just come in and answer the phones which I did. Mrs Whyte always refer to the students as The Ladies of Agnes Macphail. I went to see her at Meadowlands and it was like time had stood still, and I told her how special she was to me . I am so glad we had that time together and I will always remember what a SPECIAL LADY she was.God Bless to you all.

I too was a student at Agnes Macphail school (73 - 77)where Mrs Whyte was the principal. I was just thinking about her the other day & how kind she was to us all even the ones that gave her a hard time as I did sometimes too. I'll never forget the day she called me to her office & sat me down to tell me that my marks were too high for being there & I don't belong at that school & that she wanted to place me at Sir John A MacDonald & has spoken to the principal there already & they are more than willing to place me directly into gr 10 at the time. She asked me to think it over for the wknd & give her an answer on Monday as I did but decided to stay there for 3 yrs. I have to agree that she is probably the best principal that we ever had. She was a saint for having the patience & kindness that she did for all of us. I have never forgotten her nor will I. My thoughts & prayers are with all of her friends & family at this time.
Sincerely, Darlene Bennett (Adams)

To the Family of Mrs. Gladys E. Whyte
I was a student of Agnes MacPhail Vocational School. Mrs. Whyte was my Principal from 1972 until she retired, a very sad day for me that's for sure.
Mrs. Whyte taught me how to be proud, have self esteem and what true team spirit was. I will never forget what a kind loving person she was to all of us girls. We were not always at our best or well behaved, but we always knew we were loved. When we would be repremanded for anything we had done bad (and there were lots of those times) we still knew that we were loved. That was always the one thing that Mrs. Whyte made sure that we all knew. I remember one day I was called to her office, I thought I was in trouble, I kept going over in my mind previous things I may have done wrong, Mrs. Whyte only wanted to tell me that she was putting a note in my file saying that I was her Jewel, at that moment I wanted to cry I was so happy, I had never felt so loved as what I did at that moment. It has been well over 30 years and I remember it as if it were yesterday. My thoughts and Prayers are with all of you during this sad time, I have never nor will I ever forget her.
Sincerely Yours,
Patricia (Mann) Ellwood

Sincere condolences to the whole family. We know how much she loved and valued her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We shall miss our "chats" during office visits, and the sharing of books of which she was an avid reader. Mrs. Whyte was a true lady in every sense of the word.
She will be missed.
