Obituary of Joan McQuaid - Kuronen

MCQUAID - KURONEN, Joan (nee Trainor)

Passed away peacefully on November 14, 2018.   Born April 15,1929, in Souris PEI, she was the second youngest of Hannah and Joseph Trainor, later of Charlottetown.  Dear mother of Brenda McQuaid (Paul Webb), Valerie McQuaid (the late Brian Staff), Brian and Linda McQuaid.  She will be missed by her grandchildren Cody and Joel McQuaid; Kris Holland; Natalie, Olivia and Rebecca Staff; Andrew, Victoria, Elizabeth and Catharine Webb; and by her greatgrandchildren, Victoria, Angelina, Hudson, Jack, Ethan, Anna, Audrey, and Avery.   She is predeceased by her first husband, Gerald McQuaid, and her second husband, Eino Kuronen.  Joan is survived by her youngest brother, Ralph Trainor, and predeceased by her siblings, Weston (Bucko), Loretta (Zeta) and Jim Trainor, and Mary McKenzie, Marge Baxter, and Ann McCabe.  She is survived by many nephews and nieces, who were entertained by her zany character and upbeat personality.  Joan moved from PEI to Hamilton, Ontario in her late teens, and settled in Stoney Creek, where she belonged to the St. Francis Xavier Parish.  In her younger life, Joan was a Cub leader and Avon representative for many years. She was ahead of her time, making sure she had her own car - “Betsy”- during the 50’s, and later, her own income. Joan is predeceased by many of her dearest friends, but always made new friends and started a euchre game wherever she lived. Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 11 a.m. until Funeral Service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m.  Cremation to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donation to The Lung Association would be appreciated.  Notes of sympathy and condolence may be made at www.donaldvbrown.ca
