With summer upon us, I always think of Otterdale and the perfect summers there. The Harrison family is very special. Ceasar and Madeline impacted more lives than they will ever know. Thinking of all of you, especially David and Laurel, my sometimes partners-in-mischief at camp.

I was very sad to read about the passing of Carman and would like to send my condolences to the family. Gone but not forgotten, that is how I would think of this wonderful character that touched the lives of many people. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor and I have many fond memories of him. To have known Carman was a great honour.

I was very sorry to hear of Mr. Harrison's passing. He was my Art teacher at Delta from 1973-1977. I remember that he always made time for you whether it was at school or even if you saw him in public. I have visited the school a few times since I graduated and he always made me feel like I never left. He was a very kind man and my condolences go out to the Harrison family.
Sincerely, Maureen

What can you say about a man who had so much influence on your early life? I flourished as a person with value under his art umbrella both at Delta High and as a camper/ counsellor/and camp nurse at Otterdale. He was always "there" for us with his discerning wit and compassion. I shall always remember his wide freckle face laugh and pipe. He was "my" Rockwell.I'm still doing my painting and think of his" use the white of your paper to advantage!" Much love goes out to "Lefty" ,Laurel, David and their families.Take sloace in knowing Heaven is all "watercolour-ey" right now. God Bless -love B (Mellow) McMahon

Dear family and friends, thoughts and prayers go out to you during this time of grieving. I vividly remember the joy and passion for life that Mr. Harrison has taught through his creative talents and his goodness. It has been an honour and joyful experience to cross paths with Mr. Harrison as my art teacher at Delta, as part of camp Otterdale, and the good times shared with family and friends. Eventhough, our lives have become busy, I often think of everyone, and cherish our friendships. I feel truly blessed to have shared and experienced the gifts that Mr. Harrison has shared with us.
may peace grace you at this time of sorrow
much love

I offer my deepest condolences to the Harrison family. Growing up with Laurel and David, I always felt the love and caring that the family shared.
It was always great to visit their beautiful home which was filled with creativity, warmth and fun. I enjoyed chatting, listening and learning from “Mr. Harrison” (this was a time when children and teenagers would always address adults formally, but Carman never made you feel as if you were talking to an adult, instead you were talking to a friend who was interested in hearing what you had to say).
I know he will be missed very much…

I will always remember Caesar, as we fondly called him at Camp Otterdale. My memories of working at Otterdale are so vivid. As the years passed, I always looked forward to my annual Christmas card from Caesar and Lefty, with a picture of one of his many paintings adorning the front of the card! My sincere condolences and prayers go out to Lefty, Laurel and David and their families. I am especially thinking of you all during this time.
With love from,
Melissa

Ginni and I were both art students in Mr. Harrison's class in the mid sixties. We both have fond and special memories of that time and of Carman.
Carman had a way of relating to his students that was very special - I believe he brought out the best in us (if we were willing).
I was lucky enough to be asked to be a counselor at the camp one summer. Caesar was a light handed mentor who naturally treated everyone as his equal.
We will miss him, but we both have many fond memories!
Our thoughts are with you,
Ginni and Peter Sirman

I was saddened to read that Mr. Harrison had passed away. Even though I have never seen him since the 1960's in Art Class at Delta he has remained as a strong and vivid memory. Few teachers in those days treated students as thinking, feeling individuals; Mr. Harrison stands out for that reason. I recall our class going out of the school and sketching in over-grown alleys, having models for life drawing and Mr. Harrison's beautiful graveyard paintings. I still paint and draw and don't know what it would be like to not have that mode of self-expression as an outlet. Thank you.
My deepest sympathy to the Harrison family.

From: Rick Morgan I'm sorry to hear of Mr. Harrison's passing. I have many fond memories of Mr. Harrison from both Delta (as a student) and Coronation Park Church where we spent some cold nights selling Christmas trees and decorated the church for the annual Christmas pageant. I know both of my parents enjoyed being with Mr. Harrison at the church. He was an inspiring teacher and a kind and gentle man. I'm sorry that I won't be able to make it from Ottawa for his funeral.

Carman and Madeleine have had such an impact in our family since we first met in 1967.
It was in 1967 that Bill began teaching at Delta S.S., Hamilton and was fortunate to have a classroom beside one of the best art teachers in Hamilton. It all began from teaching colleague and mentor to a long-time best friend and confident.
Our family enjoyed Otterdale camp life, Dianne and Bill as staff members, children Janice and Brian as campers and later staff members from 1972 to 1982.
In recent years we have enjoyed one another's company at dinner parties and attending live theatre together.
We have life-time memories that have made us all better persons for having Carman and his family as ever-lasting friends.
May God Bless Carman and his Family.
Sincerely
Dianne, Bill, Janice, Brian and Family

I am very sad to read of Carman's passing. He was my first department head and I considered him to be my role model not only for an art teacher , but also a role model of what a truly great department head should be. I will always be grateful for everything he taught me. He was not only a truly gifted teacher but someone who I considered a friend. He was a magnificent man in every way : honest, caring and a wonderful leader. He inspired greatness not only in his students but also in his staff. He was also one of the greatest painters I have had the privilege to meet. I send my deepest sympathy to Madeleine and the rest of his family.
sincerely, Wendy

From: Joanne (RAK) Hawrylyshyn. Dearest Mrs. Harrison, Laurel, David, and family, it was with great sadness that I read of Mr. Harrisons passing. He was truly a kind and gentle man. Despite the passage of years and connection, he came to see me at my own fathers funeral. Age had not diminished his great capacity for warmth and compassion... the consummate father figure. Take solace in knowing how many lives he enriched, and celebrate knowing how much he was revered. I am sorry that I cannot be with you tonight, but my thoughts are with you. Perhaps our paths will reconnect again one day...until then, love you all. Joanne.

From:
When thinking of the most influential people of our lives, certain individuals always come to mind. Carmen, or Caesar as many of us will always warmly refer to him, is one of those rare, special individuals.
Caesar was our teacher, our mentor, and our friend.
Our lives would not have been the same without him.
Our deepest heartfelt condolences go out to Madeline, Laurel, David and their families.
Susan and I would like to believe that Caesar has just gone to pre-camp a little early this year.

As someone who attended Camp Otterdale from 1976 to 1982, I can truly say that Carmen (and Madeleine) have had a lasting and very cherished influence on my life. "Ceasar" and "Lefty" were both such wonderful leaders, wise, caring, fun, who created something very special for many many children and adolescents. I am saddened to hear of his passing and and thinking of you all in this time of loss.

We are very sad to hear of Carman's passing.
Carman was such a well respected teacher and gentleman, always doing his best for his students and fellow teachers as well.
His leadership with the heads' council was admirable.
I am sorry that I will be out of the country and cannot pay our respects in person.
Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
