Sadly we announce the death of our beloved Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt and Friend, Edith Piercy, on May 1, 2008, at Hamilton, Ontario, in her 99th year. Edith was born at Humbleholme in Sarnia, Ontario, June 10, 1909, wrapped in cotton and placed on the oven door to keep her warm and alive because she was so tiny. Edith was the loving wife of the late John E. Piercy, dearly treasured mother of Mary E. Ewan. Her beloved sons, J.C. (Sonny) and Charles E. (Ted), and her dear son-in-law Leslie R. Ewan predeceased her. Favourite and most dearly loved grandmother of John C., Hamilton and Robert E., Oakville, and great-grandson, Cole. Dear mother-in-law of Vivian Piercy. Dear sister of Hedley Gable and his wife Myrtle, Ottawa; lona Darrall and the late Harry, Hamilton. Predeceased by her loving brothers Elbert C. (Bert) Gable and his wife Irene; Delmas (Dell), sister, Bereniece Ledger and her husband George, Waterloo, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Beatrice and Frank Kempling, London. Loved sister-in-law of Lillian Gable, Burlington; Ruth Piercy and the late C.C. (Chris) Piercy, Stoney Creek. Special Aunt Edith to Joyce and Bob Kotar, Peterborough; Marilyn and Fred Bristol, Ancaster; Evelyn Gable and the late E.W. (Bill) Gable, Freelton; Laurie Gladwish, Waterloo; Terry and Sherron Gable, Ottawa; Bill and Judy Darrall, Hamilton; Fran and Paul Dunn, Hamilton; Mary Jane Gable-Flock, Hamilton; Sue and Werner Strasser, London; Christopher and Shelley Piercy, London. Several generations of great- nieces and nephews mourn her loss. Edith was a member of St. Stephen-on-the-Mount Anglican Church; Life member of Mizpeh Chapter #56 OES, now Westminster Chapter #176 and a 50-year member of the OES. Past Counselor of the UCT Ladies Auxiliary; past Supreme Chairman of the UCT International Builders of Women Committee; member of the Anglican Business and Professional Women's Association; past member of the Local Council of Women, Hamilton and the Hamilton Mundialization Committee, which twinned Hamilton with Fukayama, Japan. Edith was a woman devoted to the service of her home and family and the community around her. A superb cook and baker, dress designer and seamstress, she met each challenge and obstacle in her path with grace, wisdom and a servants' heart. She lived to help others. For the past 8 years Edith has been a resident of Stoney Creek Lifecare Centre, Fruitland. Her family is grateful to the staff and visiting ministries for the care and compassion that they have shown to Mom. At Edith's request, cremation has taken place. Our service to celebrate her life will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at St. Stephen-on-the-Mount Anglican Church at 2:30 p.m. o'clock, the Rev. Canon Scott McNaughton and Archdeacon John Rathbone officiating. If desired, donations may be made to CNIB or The Alzheimer Society. Donald V.
