Obituary of Jan Gerrit Vanderveen

VANDERVEEN, Jan Gerrit At St. Joseph’s Hospital on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, Jan Gerrit Vanderveen of Stoney Creek passed away in his 86th year. Jan was the beloved husband of Daniella (nee Bergshoeff). He is predeceased by his parents and his sister Greet. Survived by brothers Geert, Joop, Henk and niece Joke in The Netherlands. He will be missed by his children Clifford (Carole), Renata (Glenn), Ilona (Andrew) and Jan Jr. He was the proud Opa of his grandchildren Ryan, Aaron, Robert, Tiffany and Mikayla. Jan served as a Sgt. Major with the Royal Netherlands Army in the Indonesian War of Independence. Jan worked 32 years at Stelco as a millwright and was a proud member of Local 1005. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital for their care and compassion. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
