Obituary of William (Bil) Wert
WERT, William (Bil) Passed away peacefully at home while watching television. Born in 1932 in Ottawa. Predeceased by his parents Wallace and Dorothy (nee Armstrong) and in-laws Tom and Pauline Gulliver. Bil moved to Hamilton in 1952 and married Arlene in 1956. William (Lisa) and Judi were gifts from that union. Bil's happiest years were vacationing in Florida every March with his family. He was adored by his grandchildren Kellie, Victoria and Kyle Wert. While living in Ottawa, Bil played one season with the Ottawa Senators before their addition to the NHL and two seasons with the Ottawa Rough Riders. He was also an excellent baseball player and we still have the clippings and trophies to prove it. Bil joined the I.U.E.C. Local 90 (Elevators) and due to an industrial injury in 1959 which became increasingly worse, he was forced to retire at the age of 55. Bil is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Peter and Billie Yakiwchuk and his brother Don (Huggy) Bradley and sister Cheryl (George) Brackenbury. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be held at the DONALD V. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Lake Ave. Dr., Stoney Creek on Friday, April 25th at 1 p.m. www.donaldvbrown.ca
