I love you Michael, you were the best friend and brother anyone could have ever asked for. You could make me laugh like no one else... we had such a special connection. Even though it may not have seemed this way at times, I always wanted you to have a better life than I had, or would have. Nothing ever mattered more to me than you and your happiness; I'm sorry if I ever gave you a reason to be upset. I'd like you to know that no matter what I do or where I go in life, I will take you with me. There isn't anything I wish to experience without you by my side. I will miss you so much, and I will cherish our memories forever.
Love always,
Your big sis Jen xxx

We have never met but we share a common bond....one we wish we never did. On April 22, 2007 our son died suddenly as a result of a dirt bike accident at 17 years old. Not a day goes by that we don't miss him dearly. Our hearts break for you as you have embarked on this journey sadly too. Everyone is differant when you loose a child...some want to hibernate while others (we) love to be around people. The more we talk the better we feel. For us, it has been our faith in God as HE has carried us through the seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, month and the last year or so. If you ever want to connect with someone who understands the road you are on...we are here. My Husband Quinn is a fireman in st. catharines and works Mike Vale. In Our prayers tonight, The Hofland family

Reflections on Michael Zabluda
Michael Zabluda was a student during my time as Principal at Bellmoore School. Over a three year period, I got to know Michael and his family. During this time, Michael grew up and developed into a young man who was passionate about sports, music and his friends. He was known for his sense of humour and he loved to joke around with his friends.
More seriously, I knew Michael as someone who had a definite idea about what was “fair” and what was not. We often discussed fairness and individual perspectives on issues in life. Michael also had an amazing understanding of the “underdog” and was compassionate and sincere when dealing with anyone whom he thought was not being treated fairly. He developed a level of trust with me and did not hesitate to seek out my assistance in sorting out typical adolescent problems at school. He was especially good with the primary students and would volunteer to help out when teachers asked for assistance.
As Principal, I witnessed an amazing relationship between Michael and his Dad. Both of his parents were supportive and shared an open line of communication with the school. It just seems like yesterday I meet Mr. Zabluda in the parking lot of Fortinos and we talked about Michael’s year in grade nine, his aspirations and interests.
It is so hard to believe that someone so vibrant and lively was taken so tragically and suddenly. There is no explanation of why things like this happen. There are no words or actions that can make the situation better. My prayers and thoughts are with Michael’s family and friends at this difficult time. Forever cherish the memories.
Sincerely,
Joan Kott, Retired Principal Bellmoore Public School

I was shocked when i heard what happened. I didn't think it was true when i first heard of it. I met Mike in grade 9 on the first day of highschool. Mike was one of the funniest kids i new at Saltfleet. When i had a class with him he would crack jokes all the time. We would always go to Tim Hortons for lunch. I am sorry for your loss. He'll be missed by all.

I am extremely saddened by this tragic loss. Mike always had great stories to tell during my math class and made everyone laugh. He was such a pleasant and respectful young man - always a nice greeting and smile as we passed each other in the halls at school. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you at the very difficult time.

I have known Mike for only a short two years but in that time he has shown me many great things. We shared a lot of laughs and gum, when I heard this on the news I was in a complete shock. It was so hard for me to beleive that someone I would talk with everyday for almost the entire lunch and even sometimes through my programming class has passed on.
I send my care and support to the entire family

It was with shock and sadness that I read about this tragedy. To Michael's family, I am so sorry for your loss. As Michael's grade 9 and 10 science teacher, I really came to like him for his sense of humour and genuine interest in science. He was such a personable and mature young man and I really enjoyed our little after class talks about astronomy, renewable energy and even the effects of asparagus. We'll really miss him at Saltfleet.

The comments submitted though prove he was a very special young man, who was well-respected and loved by all.

I am so terribly shocked. Mike was such a likeable, vibrant and friendly young man. As one of his teachers I looked forward to each time I would meet him in the halls or in class. He was as positve and energetic young person as you would ever want to have around. This is a real tragedy. My deepest sympathies to Peter and Debbie. I cannot begin to apreciate your loss.
