Obituary of Hilda Sykes

On January 2, 2014 at her home Hilda peacefully passed away with her family by her side. Hilda Catherine Sykes (nee Melanson) was born in Nova Scotia on February 21, 1920. She married Harold on April 5, 1945 and moved to Stoney Creek where she has lived for the past 65 years. She is the cherished mother of Pamela and her husband Jim Simpson, Lynn and her husband Brad Kuhn, the late Mary Lee Baron (2000) and Kathy and her husband John Gielen. Loving Grandmother of Corey Rowe (Christina), Holly Simpson, Heather Stewart (Shawn), Shannon Ryan (Rick), Chris Gielen (Becky), Bryan Gielen, the late Jay, and many great-grandchildren. Hilda is a graduate from St. Joseph Hospital in Chatham with an RN Degree in 1941. She is also a proud member with the CWL for over 60 years. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 304 Highway #8 in Stoney Creek at 1:30 p.m. A private interment will take place at White Chapel Memorial Gardens at a later date.
