Obituary of Joyce Margaret Campbell
CAMPBELL, Joyce Margaret (Walker) nee Snell
At the Arbour Creek Long Term Care Centre, on Monday, July 18, 2011, in her 93rd year. Beloved mother to four sons and their wives, Douglas and Catherine, Robert and Kathleen, Richard and Sylvie and John (Jack) and Lynda; devoted Nanni to 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; cherished sister of Sydney (and his departed wives, Isobel and Marjorie) and Leonard and Carol; loved Auntie to her special nieces and nephews; and gentle friend to many. Joyce was loved by all who knew her. In 1979, Joyce was pre-deceased by her one true love, Donald Stewart Walker. In the autumn of her life, Joyce found love again with her second husband, Hugh D. Campbell, who passed away in 1991. Joyce grew up the daughter of a loving father, George H. Snell, a well-respected Anglican minister, and her cherished mother, Lorna Sydney Snell (nee Dunn) – “Granny” to the family. Joyce enjoyed a period of paid employment as a bank teller at the Dominion Bank at Main & James in Hamilton (many remember the story of how Joyce had to practice using her teller’s cage revolver). Once married to Don, Joyce worked (and we mean hard!) raising four rambunctious boys and contending with issues such as concussions, a gunshot wound to one son's foot, and choirboy chewing gum antics, to name a few; she also helped Don in his business ventures. Active for many years in the Anglican Church, Joyce lent her lovely alto voice to the church choir. She also volunteered for many years with the Canadian Red Cross at their blood donor clinics. Later in life, Joyce enjoyed travelling with her husband, Hugh, throughout the British Isles, Europe, Florida and Alaska. In her later years, Joyce was burdened with debilitating rheumatoid arthritis, yet always maintained her wonderful sense of humour and positive outlook on life - she always rolled with the punches. We miss her terribly and will cherish her memory for the rest of our days . Friends will be received at the Donlad V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, July 22nd at 1:30 p.m. Interment Stoney Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate donations to the Canadian Arthritis Society. The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful, caring staff at the Arbour Creek Long Term Care Centre. On line condolences may be made at www.donaldvbrown.ca
