Obituary of Patrick John Downey

With family by his side, Patrick passed peacefully on Monday, April 20, in his 80th year, during a prolonged stay at St. Peter’s Hospital. Beloved son of the late William and Caroline Downey. Devoted husband to Margaret, with whom he recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Dedicated and loving father to Linette, Grant, and Craig, and father-in-law to Katharin Cowan and Shirley Espeja. Survived by his siblings Carl (and Pat), Robert (and Cathy), William Jr. (Billy), and Diane, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews across Canada. A long-time employee at Westinghouse Canada (computer operator) for over three decades, Patrick followed an early retirement by continuing to devote his energy to Canada Post. An avid woodworker and handyman, Patrick was a true sports fan (Leafs, Jays). He enjoyed the great outdoors, and loved to sport fish at every opportunity. The Downey family wishes to extend heart-felt gratitude and thanks to the compassionate and caring staff of St. Peter’s Hospital, 2nd floor West, as well as those at Hamilton General Hospital, for the outstanding care Patrick received. Friends and relatives will be received at Donald V.Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Wednesday, April 22, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Parish, Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Peter’s Rehabilitation Hospital, Hamilton are most appreciated.
