Obituary of Dorothy Chlan
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Chlan (nee Doyle) after a brief illness at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her soulmate James G. Chlan (1987). Mother to Jim (Lynn), Wayne (Joanne), John (Olha), and Agnes Timmins (Kenneth). Loving Baba to Justin (Kim), Jason, Joel (Emily), Beau, Zachary, Nichole, Olana, Zenon, Tim Orr, Ronnie Orr, and Bonnie Orr. Dorothy was born on October 14, 1922 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia to Sarah McNeil and Joseph Doyle. Predeceased by siblings Doddy “John” Doyle, Isabel McMillan, and Mayme Oram. Dorothy left home at an early age to join the army where she soon met Jim and married in 1947. She led a full, active, and independent life right up until the end. Dorothy volunteered much of her time with the Catholic Women’s League, R.H.L.I. Veterans Association, National Steel Car Veterans Association, and was a strong advocate for Veterans’ rights within these organizations. Special thanks to the Juravinski Hospital staff on C Floor B3 and Emergency for their care. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. Inurnment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
