Obituary of Evelyn Margaret Black
After a nine month struggle with many health issues, Evelyn entered the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, June 27, 2014, one day after her 88th birthday. She is once again reunited with her beloved husband Murray (2006). She will be dearly missed by her children Judie Birnie (Bob), Paul Black (Cheryl), Heather Thornton (Bill). She is loved by seven grandchildren and their spouses, Rob Birnie (Laura), Kevin Birnie (Amanda), Ashley Danner (Matthew), Katie Robinson (Dan), Brooke Anderson (Justin), Lauren and Alyssa Thornton. She was a special “Gigi” to seven great-grandchildren: Tyler, Kara, Elias, Timothy, Colby, Landon and Alexis. She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law Muriel Black, Evelyn Black and Vera Crocker, as well as many nieces and nephews. Evelyn graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1951 and spent many years working on the Pediatric ward at St. Joe’s. She spent the last seven years as a resident at the Courts of Rushdale Retirement Living apartments where she made many friends. She was presently a member at West Highland Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff at St. Joseph’s hospital for their loving care these past few weeks with special thanks to Dr. Woods and the members of the Palliative Care Team.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 29 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home. 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, ON L8G 3N3. A private interment service will take place on Monday, June 30th at White Chapel Memorial Gardens followed by a Service of Love and Remembrance at 1:30 p.m. at Flamborough Baptist Church, 41 Concession 5 E, Waterdown, ON L0R 2H1.
