We first met Reay and Jean in August of 1985, when he came to his Home congregation of Knox Port Carling, ON as the anniversary speaker. We enjoyed their company over the many summers they spent in Port Carling. When Reay retired in 1986 he invited me to come to Grimby and choose books from his library, a truly rare gift for a new minister starting out, second only to his friendship over the years. Blessings Rev. Dr. R. Glenn Ball and Lorna Ball St. Andrew's Presbyterian

Dear Mrs. Duke, Ruth and family. Just to express my sympathy to each of you in the passing of Rev. Duke. Sue and I lost our Mom, Jackie on August 19, 2013 and so we can share your sadness; however, we must concentrate on two lives well lived. Tia, who turned 100 on October 7th., was notified and by now you may have been contacted by her. Most sincerely, Jan.

Dear Aunt Jean, Jim, Tom, Ruth and families, My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you with the loss of a great husband, father and grandfather. I loved Uncle Reay and have such great memories of him throughout my childhood and to this day. He always welcomed me with a big hug, a warm smile and kind words. How wonderful to know that he is in the presence of our Lord with no more pain or tears, celebrating with so many family members in heaven. Love, Elizabeth and family

Uncle Reay was always a cheery smiling face at the cottage. I have fond memories of being pulled around the lake in the tube in the old boat, or fishing off the dock with him helping us kids remove the fish from the hook. He and his brother Tom (Grampie) always lived their lives in faith and spirituality in a time when the world became increasingly fast paced and modern and always lead by example. His humble and quiet nature will be very much missed, but not forgotten. All my love and thoughts to Jean and the family. Love Jordan

Dear Jim, Tom and Ruth, We have been thinking of Jean and you over the past several days. Reay was such a patient and positive uncle. We always enjoyed his quiet manner and ability to see another person's point of view. He had some very tough things to deal with (Jessie, David, ...) but he seemed (at least on the outside) to be able to cope with those exceptionally sad circumstances with grace and dignity. I have memories of him sitting on the front deck of your cottage slicing vegetables to make Chinese food, his patience and concentration on a small job such as that, reflected in my mind, his whole approach to life. He was a good uncle, an excellent minister and a humble man. All our Love Doug, Ann, Shannon, Jordan and Nico

Both of us have fond memories of Reay and what he stood for within the PCC. He was certainly tolerant of two young people who knew it all and were ready to inflict their opinions on others! Condolences to all the Duke family with a special hug for you, Jim.

Reay was the interim moderator at Roxborough Park when I was a summer student there back in the 90's. He was always supportive of my call to ministry and encouraged me in developing my gift for preaching. He was a gracious man who will be missed and I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to know him.
