A beautiful obituary, describing a person who knew how to live a joyful life! I had not seen Gene for many years but remember vividly her sense of humor, her sense of adventure and her loving spirit.

From: Ann Prince Stevens -- To Joanne and family. I saw the obituary notice in the Globe and Mail and wish to pass along my thoughts and condolences. I remember your mother pretty well from the times I visited you in Stoney Creek. The photo in the Globe was instantly recognizable. I hope you and your family are doing fine and my deepest sympathies to all of you. My best, Ann

I was saddened to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you and all your family during this difficult time. While I never had a chance to meet your Mom - the various notes that I have read here indicate - it was very much my loss.

Arlene, Joanne, Cindy & families.....not a day goes by that I don't think of my mom and the impact she had on my life and the life of our family. Mom's are the 'hub of the wheel'....they hold all the spokes of the family functioning as one....they are our centrepoint and our compass; helping us to navigate the steps of our journey.
Even though I feel deep sadness for you and your families as you grieve the loss of your wonderful mom and Grandma, I know in my heart that what will pull you through is a life full of wonderful & tangilble memories to keep in your minds and hold in your hearts.
I can just imagine it now.....both our mothers in heaven....catching up, reminiscing and gushing over their beautiful families while savouring one of your mom's famous buttertarts!
Sending loving and healing thoughts your way,
Mandi

Hi, Flash,
I'm sorry that we're contacting you in this manner at this sad time for you and your family. We can sympathize with you as my mother also passed away a little over two years ago so we have some understanding of what you are going through. We just wanted to say that we're thinking of you all.
As we live twenty miles south of Belleville, we won't be able to travel to visit you in person. However, if you find yourself in this area, let us know you're coming and we can have dinner together.

I am miles away from all of of Gene's family, but my thoughts and sincere sympathy is sent to you all at this sad time in the loss of our loved one. I have known Gene since I was a little girl. She always treated me with love and kindness. As the years went by she was my contact person to the rest of the family, with regular phone calls starting off with Romanian greetings and laughter and always closing with I love you cousin. Last summer when the three "Merry Sisters" visited me in Moose Jaw, it was such an enjoyable time and one I will always remember and cherish. The best part of the week was being adopted as their youngest "Merry Sister".
Gene was a special lady, a lady that I will always remember with love and respect. Take care of each other as I know your Mom, Sister, and Grandmother would want you to.
God Bless you all,
Cousin Virgina (Merry Sister #4)

Saddened to read of your mother's passing. Bob & I always remember her helpfulness & cheerfulness when we shopped at the hardware store when we lived in Stoney Creek.
I also recall her as a warm individual when I was a child. Mothers can't be replaced but may your warm memories sustain you through this difficult time.
Arlene, after I retired from teaching I began running a B&B out of my home in Tobermory.
If you ever have occasion to be up this way please stop in & say hello. love to see you after all these years!
Hugs, Christine

To Koel and family: I met your grandmother only once, Koel, but she left a deep impression of a person with endless energy and a wicked sense of fun. She certainly lived her life to the fullest. You spoke of her often so it was not hard to know that she was an integral part of your life as well as your whole family. Feel deeply in your sorrow but know that she left you the best gift: love and memories. My deepest condolences for your loss.

From:Betty & Bill Fitz
To Joanne, Koel and family,
We were deeply saddened to learn of the loss of your Mother, Genevieve, whom we had the pleasure of meeting on a number of occasions. No matter how we prepare ourselves for what is inevitable it still comes as a painful reminder of how precious life is. When it is one’s Mother, who brought us into the world, nurtured us through our formative years, encouraged and supported us throughout our lives, the loss is even more poignant.
As you note you can be thankful that you had her in your lives for so long and take solace in the knowledge that her suffering has ended.
We extend our heartfelt condolences and hope that the memories of the wonderful life Genevieve lived and shared with her family sustain you at this difficult time.

I met your mother two or three times at Flo's, and her whole attitude to life was one of fun. I used to hear about her quite a lot through Flo as she was such a friend to Flo as well as a beloved sister. My deepest sympathies to the whole family. You will have such a lot of happy memories, which was her legacy to you all.
