Obituary of William David Dowin

DOWIN, William David A golden heart stopped beating on Sunday, July 7, 2013 when we lost an amazing man, William David Dowin, in his 69th year. After living with cancer for more than 6 years, the disease recently took the upper hand. He died at his daughter's home, as he wished, cared for and surrounded by the love of his family. Special friend and husband to Babs (nee Barbara Heap). Beloved father to David, Samantha and her husband Scott Porterfield. Loving Grandfather to William and Rhett. He is survived by his father, William Dowin, mother, Nellie Clark and sister, Sandra (Bill) Sotnikow. Pre-deceased by his mother-in-law Mary Heap (nee Wristen). Bill will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and in-laws, especially his father-in-law Cyril Heap and brother-in-law and best bud, Gary Heap. A special thank you to Dr. Marcellus and the JCC staff for providing him with an unexpected prolonged quality of life over the last 6 years. The family would also like to express their thanks more recently to the ER and ICU staff at WLMH, the CCAC, VON, We Care nurses, Mary Catherine Rilett and Dr. Boyle of the Niagara West Palliative Care Team and family physician Dr. Shoemaker for their care and compassion. Memorial donations would be appreciated to the Juravinski Cancer Center. At Bill's request cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Copetown Woods Golf Club, with a Celebration of Life reception to follow from 3-5 p.m. Online condolences may be sent at www.donaldvbrown.ca
