Obituary of John Robert Hammill

HAMMILL, John With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Robert Hammill at the Juravinski Hospital on Friday, September 25, 2015 in his 70th year. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Travis) for 44 years. Cherished father of John Michael and his wife Laura, Christine and her wife Tyna. Proud grandpa of Jacob, Braeden, Avery and Jackson. Brother of Barbara Murie (Dave) and the late Rick Barabash and his wife Margaret. Special great-uncle to Megan Ferris. John was an active member of his community, who served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada and also served as commanding officer of local cadet corps for a total of 51 years. John spent countless years coaching soccer, hockey and baseball in Stoney Creek. He thoroughly enjoyed his time playing baseball with the Hamilton Old Timers. As a retired millwright with 37 years of service at Stelco, John enjoyed his retirement spending time at the trailer and taking trips down south. Special thanks to the staff at Juravinski Hospital for all of their care, especially his homecare nurse Marian Frame. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations to the Cancer Assistance Program, Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
