Obituary of Nikola Milanovic

MILANOVIC, Nikola Born February 11, 1944 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia and died September 7, 2016 in Hamilton, ON, Canada. With sadness we announce Nick's passing from heart failure at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Nada Milanovic and Nikola Baljak. He leaves behind his two sons Nick, David and their families as well his partner Biljana Zelic. Nick was raised in poverty on a farm by his grandparents near Bačka Topola, Vojvodina, Serbia in the aftermath of World War II. He left home at fourteen and later escaped from behind the iron curtain to live in a displaced persons camp in Italy. Nick arrived as a refugee to Canada at nineteen and settled in Hamilton. He married Irene Patocs in 1965 and was later employed for 33 years at the Canadian Appliance Manufacturing Company. Nick was a union executive and represented injured and ill employees before the Workers' Compensation Board. We would like to express our great appreciation to Dr. Turner, Jessica and the other R.N.s and staff who cared for Nick in his final days. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 17th at 11 a.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1895 Main Street, W. Hamilton, Ontario. Afterwards, there will be a gathering of friends and family to share stories about Nick at AUGUSTA HOUSE, 17 Augusta Street, Hamilton, Ontario.
