My thoughts and prayers extend to the Stewart family. Like many others, it was Jim that introduced me to the competitive pipe band world. If I was to select one memory of Jim, it would be of him playing bass drum for Toronto & District in Alma, Michigan in 1989. That day Jim defied the laws of gravity, with his famous jump at the very end of the medley. Always musical and always highly entertaining, Jim took the art of bass drumming to an incredible level. He will be missed.

Julie and Erin my heart and sole go out to you. The news of Jimmie’s passing struck deep. He was one of a kind and there won’t be another one like him. Playing with Jimmy in T&D and then Peel Police was the greatest times of my pipe band career. He welcomed me quickly as he did with everyone and shared his love of the music! Mr Ensemble is the most appropriate name( other than the Dancing Bear), as no-one could tie the pipes and drums together any better. We have lost a great one but the massed bands in heaven just stepped up a notch!

Jim you might be gone but never forgotten.
You were and still are the most soulful bass player ever to strap on that drum. You played like a Rock Star.
Grateful and homered to have played beside you.
You were the inspiration to how I write my mid section music to this day.
Rest is pease Pal.......
