It is with great sadness that this write this, having learned about Randy’s passing. Randy and I were residents at and Fellows at Founders College, York
University. We were corridor-mates for three years; his office being opposite mine before he retired. We often spent much time laughing and lamenting about and across our similarities in life and predicament, even if we had different backgrounds culturally and were from academic dispositions and disciplines, him passionate about the humanities and me a social scientist. It didn’t matter, we just laughed and regaled together. My many memories of Randy were ones of humour and seriousness, of love for his daughters and his new life.
May that love and that life stay with the memories of those who loved him and remember him fondly.

I remember Randy with great respect for his scholarship, his superb work ethic and the terrific person he was. I was proud to be one of his key supporters who ensured that his tenure was secured at York University.

Randy was our son Christopher's father-in-law, and a loved and valued member of our extended family. Always a gentleman, and a gentle man, he was wise and caring. We value the 30 years that we knew him; he will be missed but always in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Randy. Lux aeterna luceat eis.

The Scott family was part of a group of 4 families that lived and raised their children in the Brookville subdivision off Guelph Line. Randy was indeed the more cerebral of the fathers but he could be counted on in the early years to don skates for pond hockey or to be the go to driver to ballet lessons. Randy always told us ( the Magee parents) that our daughter Katie, and Kayla were very good during the car ride home. Since they were never 'good' for us, it was hard to figure out his magic until he was outed by the kids. Nothing buys quiet like junk food in the form of Smarties and other similarily healthy food.
Both Steve and I truly valued Randy's conversations on a wide variety of topics both over a glass of wine or on a dog walk. He was never shy to offer his opinion. He was a quiet ( mostly), generous man who put family first in all he did. He cherished all his girls and their spouses. Never holding a grudge, he walked through life with a gentle flame that we will miss dearly.
Love to you all,
Diane and Steve Magee

I am deeply saddened by this news. My condolences to all of Randy's loved ones. He was truly a lovely man and I remember him especially as a caring mentor to me as my university colleague and co-teacher during my first professional years. I will never forget him.
