Obituary of Betty Pearson

PEARSON, Betty (nee Constance Henrietta Barnett) (PETERS)

( 1922 – 2021 )

Betty was born on July 21, 1922 in Port Royal, Ontario to Richard and Henrietta Barnett. They came to Canada from England along with Betty’s two older sisters, Joan and Dora (“Bonnie”).

The family moved to McAnulty Blvd. in Hamilton, Ontario where Betty spent her younger years. She attended Lloyd George Public School and Delta Collegiate Institute in Hamilton.(Betty at that time was known to her friends as “Connie”.)

She attended the Young People’s Group at Lake Gospel Church on Beach Rd. in Hamilton where she met her first husband, Robert (Robbie) Peters. They were married and had a son David before Robbie was sent overseas to fight in WWII. Sadly he was killed in action in the war in 1944. Betty was left as a single mother with a young son to raise.

After the war, she worked to support her son and continued to attend Lake Gospel Church with her friend Claire Pearson where at times, Claire’s brother Jack joined them. One thing led to another and soon Jack and Betty were a couple. They married in 1946.

Mom (Betty) and dad went on to have 5 children together and soon became a family of 8. (David, Bill, Jackie, Patti, Johnny and Philip) They moved to three different addresses over the years until they settled at Kennedy Ave. in Hamilton. This would be their final home together.

The house was filled with joy, sadness, tears and laughter. We all knew how much we were loved and discipline was doled out as needed! We were a family of faith and together attended Lake Gospel Church on Ellis Ave. It was later renamed to Ellis Ave. Bible Church. Mom was active in the Ladies Group at Church and to this day, considers her friends from Church as her closest friends. She later attended Philpott Memorial Church and appreciated the weekly phone calls and cards she received from friends at Philpott.

There were many family trips to Sauble Beach, Myrtle Beach, Florida and then later mom and dad were able to travel to England, Scotland and Ireland. They even took a trip to Ecuador to visit a Bible Radio Mission. They had a trailer at Fair Havens Bible Conference in Beaverton where they enjoyed their time immensely. After dad passed away mom started to travel with her friends on many bus trips, to the trailer with friends or family, and even a trip to England with Vivi.

Mom lived alone in the house until she was 96. All of her children, grandchildren and most of her great-grandchildren enjoyed fun times in her big backyard or in the kitchen eating ice cream.

Some health and mobility issues were becoming safety issues for mom to be able to stay on her own. After a brief illness in the hospital, she moved to Amica Stoney Creek in 2018. She received excellent care from staff at Amica as well as Bayshore. A young friend Arlee often came to visit and chat with mom, at times playing mom’s piano for her to listen to and enjoy.

Mom was promoted to Glory on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

Mom was predeceased by her two sisters Joan Gillespie(Bob) and Bonnie(Lou Erlich) Baggerly(Everett).

She was also predeceased by her sisters-in-law Claire Hutchinson(Perc) and Gladys Moore(Joe). She is survived by Wilma Campbell (John).

Mom…..we love you so much and will miss you!
