Dear Verna and family,
We are very sorry to hear of Gary’s passing, and we send all of you our heartfelt condolences. We have spent much time with your family over the years, with all the kids growing up together. After Gary moved out west to Calgary, we had many good times visiting with you and Don, and sometimes seeing Gary on our own when we were visiting Carol and Kathy. It was always fun to hear Gary and Laurie playing their guitars, and going with them to western dancehalls to listen to country music. We are thinking of you during this sad time.
Love, Arnold and Shirley

Dear Verna, Laurie, Carol, Bruce and Diana,
Sending heartfelt condolences during this sad time to you and all your families. Gary certainly loved life, and we have many good memories of time spent together in Calgary. Whether it was when Don and Verna were visiting, or Arnold and Shirley, or just celebrating Stampede, it was always fun to get together. When I moved to Calgary in 1988, the only person I knew was cousin Gary, and when I called I hadn't seen him since I was a kid. Next thing I knew, Kathy came to visit me and we were attending Gary and Laurie's beautiful outdoor wedding with the Rocky Mountains in the background. I think Gary may have taught his eastern cousins how to 2-step! I hope that you find comfort knowing that Gary followed his dream when he and \Laurie moved to Mexico to enjoy life in the sun. I'm thinking of you all now and always. Love, cousin Carol

We are so very sorry about Gary's passing. We have so many fun memories of spending time with Gary and Laurie once Carol moved to Calgary and I would visit, and then when I moved to Calgary. One of my favourites is making arrangements to meet him at The Westwind the first time I came to town visiting Carol - we hadn't seen each other since I was a little kid; I walked in and saw a man sitting at the bar, I approached and said 'Gary?' he said 'Kathy?' and we laughed at being cousins and not even knowing each other! I'm glad we were able to spend time together, as well as with you and Don, Verna, when you would come out to visit. Gary & Laurie's wedding was such a great event, and we always loved the sing-alongs and the dancing when we all got together! Rest in peace, Gary. Sending our love to you all, we know how much he will be missed xo

I met Gary in high school. During that time and for some time after we shared many youthful mishaps and misdemeanours.
One summer evening in 1974 we were in the Innsville Hotel in Winona. I had just quit my job in the Steel Mills and was wondering what to do with myself. Gary mentioned that a mutual friend was about to hitchhike out west and maybe I should join him. I did, and it was the most impactful decision of my life. I became a westerner.
Gary followed suit a short time later and while we were in Calgary together I attended both of his weddings, he was the real estate agent for the one and only house my wife Marion and I ever bought. I still have his Realty World business card with his young faced pictured. When we developed the basement some time later he was the finishing carpenter. We played countless hours of ball hockey together and when I returned to university he funnelled some work my way.
I lost track of Gary about the time he moved to The Wee Valley Ranch near Water Valley. I knew he had located to Cremona. I would often go out there in hopes of finding him even as late as this spring not realizing he had long since left. There’s a lesson in keeping lines of communication open there
In the last year I considered him the last of my “ hometowners “ and the person who went furthest back in time with me.
In all the time I knew Gary there was never a harsh word between us nor any transgressions. I will treasure his memory always.
My deepest condolences to all his family.

My sincerest condolences to Gary's family. I've known Gary for 51 years and you could not ask for a better or more loyal friend. I worked with Gary for years and he was as strong as an ox and was an excellent finisher / cabinet maker working on the finest homes. He loved life and lived every day to the fullest. I'm so glad that he did make it to Mexico. Some of us talked about those dreams but he actually did it. It will always now be a great regret that I didn't get to see him at least one more time.
