Obituary of Gina Maria Groen

GROEN, Gina Maria (nee Hof) Passed away peacefully at McNally House Hospice, in Grimsby on Monday, October 28, 2013 in her 91st year, after a full and happy life. Gina was the devoted and loving wife of 56 years to Peter (predeceased 2003). Dearest mother of Marian (Brian), Gerry (Nancy), Trudy (Bill), Irene (Tom), Lou (Lisa) and Ingrid (Paul). Cherished Oma of Leah (Henry) and Kristen (Cameron); Karin (Jenn), Denyse (David) and Pamela; Frank (Sherry), Julie (Emilio) and Luke; Katie (Tom) and Lori (Mike); Sarah, Laura and Carly; Stefanie, Jacob and Michelle. Beloved Great-Oma of Emily, Zachary and Alexander; Jackson; Viktoria, Ella and Natalie; Aiden and Abby; Karl and Erik; Joelle and Lily; and Peyton. Gina is predeceased by her 12 brothers and sisters and survived by numerous relatives in Holland and Canada. We will always remember Mom’s/Oma’s detailed and intricate stitcheries made with love for her family; her fondness for challenging puzzles and various brain teasers; her adept moves as a rummikub player; her many travel adventures with Dad/Opa; her role as matriarch presiding over countless family get-togethers. Mom and Dad were both very proud of their Dutch heritage and their Canadian citizenship. We take comfort in the knowledge that Mom/Oma is once again dancing to her favourite waltzes with Dad/Opa. We extend our most sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers of McNally House Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Mom/Oma. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Prayer Vigil at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord Roman Catholic Church (Barton & Nash Rd.) on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 9 a.m. Interment at Mountview Gardens, Stoney Creek to follow.
