Obituary of Joan Edgcumbe-Dalby

June 8th, 1926-October 15th, 2021

Peacefully on October 15, 2021 at Cama Woodlands LTC in her 96th year.  Beloved wife of the late Frederick Stanley Edgcumbe and Roland Dalby.  Loving mother of Dave Edgcumbe (Pam), Les Edgcumbe (Norma), Kerry Mrksic (Mike), Lisa Vooys (Dave), and Keverne Edgcumbe (Erin Hodge); Nanny of Genevieve Edgcumbe-Hladysh ;the late Courtney Edgcumbe and the late Curtis Edgcumbe; Ana Mrksic, Mark Mrksic (Lauren),and Peter Mrksic (Alyssa); Christopher Vooys (Cheyenne), Jacob Vooys and Ben Vooys; Kaylan Edgcumbe (Al Stoddard) and Brandon Edgcumbe (Sarah): Great Nanny of Hunter Hladysh; Liam and Quinn Edgcumbe, Carys and Jaxon Edgcumbe; Connor and Parker Edgcumbe; Whitney Mrksic; and Porter Mrksic.  

Cherished by all family members in Canada and England including Joan’s sister, Mavis Mallender and brothers, Roland Cox and Andrew Cox; sister in law Marjorie Edgcumbe; and many nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews in Wales, Derbyshire and Cornwall, England.

Joan and Stan came to Canada in 1957 with Dave and Les and dreams of a better future here.  Dreams do come true.  Now in 2021, they have had 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren here in Ontario.

Joan in her younger years served in the British Women’s Auxiliary during WWII.  She loved camping with her family all over Canada and the U.S.A.  Her trailer at Clifford, Ontario afforded many games of Scrabble, laughter, fishing, bonfires and visits from family.  Joan also loved singing, dancing and socializing with friends. Joan was a welcoming hostess when relatives visited from England for weddings and other special occasions.  Joan was given a Bishon Frise for her 75th Birthday and Mupet was her pride and joy for many years.  She loved when family would bring their pets to visit at Cama Woodlands.

“My Lovey” was a welcome phrase when visiting Mum, who will be remembered fondly by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to Cama Woodlands in Waterdown for all the special care and love given to Mum over the last 7 ½ years. This was truly her second home and she was cared for as a member of the family.

Our Matriarch has become another angel to watch over us. 

Her love will be held closely in our hearts and carried on by all who knew her.
