Japhia and I worked together at World Vision in the late 80’s. We were a great team and enjoyed working together. It was beautiful watching the memorial. Japhia did not change she just got better and better showing love, spreading joy and caring for others. It was wonderful seeing Japhia reflected in her children

We have such wonderful memories of Japhia, from a little blonde girl running around Glen Rocks, to being part of our youth group at Park Avenue. I'll always remember a skit she was in at one of our crazy retreats. The kids were making fun of the leaders and her line was "25 years with my head in an oven and all I get is Bob Birnie!"
She has fought the good fight and is now receiving her eternal reward. You will be missed Japhia. Our love and prayers go out to Pearl, Heather, Philip, Darlane and all of the family.
Love, Bob and Judie Birnie

Dear Brian and family ,
I came to know Japhia through the metro store where I work , she was a frequent customer there and from the moment we first chatted I felt her to be a kindred spirit. Japhias humour , kindness and joy always buoyed my spirits and I truly feel so privileged and I have known her however briefly. And when her health precluded visits to the store Brian never failed to tell me that Japhia sent her best wishes to me and wondered how I was , and in return I sent my greeting back to her . I am saddened by her passing, she will be greatly missed . Some people are just meant to cross our paths , we are forever changed for having known them. I feel this way about Japhia, she was a bright light ! To Brian and her Mom and family I send my love , prayers and sympathy ..and while I am sad I am also happy for Japhia to be at peace .. safe home sweet friend. God will light your path.

Japhia and I were what I affectionately refer to as "grocery store friends", those we hold dear in our hearts and occasionally meet in serendipitous circumstances. My memories of these encounters (besides our husbands' well disguised impatience at the length of our exchange) was the tremendous warmth, energy and laughter we shared. Our central connection was Jake and Tiffany, with whom we, and our children Sarah & Sean, shared many memorable vacations, and whom she loved so fiercely. The way that Japhia shone in our world will be missed by many, particularly Brian, her Mom and family, her precious children and their families. The rest of us mourn from a distance, celebrate how she lit up the way, and hold those left behind in prayer. Deep peace...Miki Beldman and Don McNally

So very sorry to hear of Japhia’s passing. I am thinking of Pearl after reading this and how tragic it is to lose a child. As I grew up in Delta Tabernacle, I have great respect for all of the Newell family and feel so very sad for your loss! Such a sad time for-her husband, children and grandchildren too. Thinking of all of you at this time!

I am overwhelmed with sadness learning of Japhia’s passing. She was one of my few favourite people in the world. From the first day that we met we became fast friends. Through the years, even though we rarely saw each other, our talks on the phones were as if no time had passed between us.
My deep condolences to Brian, her Mom, her children, grandchildren and all of the people who were lucky enough to have known Japhia. Love is forever. My prayers of comfort are with you all.

Dear Pearl, Darlane, Heather, Philip and all the family - I am so sad to hear of Jafia's death. Even as a child when she would come to the World Vision office, and later when she worked there, she was always a bright light in any room, and I remember well her laughter and sense of humour.
May you all know God's peace at this time, and the comfort of knowing she is with her Lord.
With sincere condolences.
