My fondest memories of Jack Callowhill as a young kid growing up in Hamilton are that he and his wife, Donna, were my parents' best friends and that they treated my sisters and I like members of their own family. Jack’s easy demeanor, perpetual smile, and soft laugh are etched into my memory from those days. Decades later, I made sure to visit the Callowhill family in Stoney Creek as often as I could while on business trips to Ottawa. While Jack rarely talked to me about his WWII military experiences without having to pry them out of him, I became quite aware of his service over the years and am very proud to have known him. My heart goes out to Doug and Norma on the passing of their father, Jack Callowhill.

Dear Norma and Doug, my thoughts and prayers are with you both in this sad moment. I met Jack 20 years ago and will never forget his positive attitude... and above all his smile. Even when I took him back to the hole he was in for several days after being wounded on Mount La Defensa, that smile was on his face. Be proud of him, he was among the best Canadian Veterans I have ever met. Gianni Blasi - Italy.

Dear Doug and Norma, my heartfelt condolences to you both and to family. Losing a parent and in this case a father, is such an intense and profound experience. I wish you strength and love during this difficult period of loss and grief.
An excerpt from the poem, 'A Soldier's Honor'
.... When an honorable soldier leaves this earth
He takes his place in Heaven
Having earned this mighty reward
Through the selfless service he's given
For a soldier's honor doesn't end with his death ...
HONOR
Becomes his eternal legacy
An inheritance left family and mankind
Of the blessings of freedom and peace

All our blessings and prayers for peace and strength to Douglas and Norma. We well remember your father as he was an integral part of the Three J's group. John Pyper, Johnnie Gilmour and Jack Callowhill. When ever all three of them were together they were like three peas in a pod. Such camaraderie, and an exuberant "Joie de vivre" was shared with all. Jack held the faith until his 11 hour. God Bless you Jack, thanks for the memories.

Jack Callowhill was the guest of honor at our annual Soldier's Christmas Dinner here in Petawawa. He was always seen mingling and talking with the current generation of soldiers, sharing stories and reminiscing of years past. I was lucky enough to have spent an entire week with Jack and another FSSF Veteran in Moncton, NB a few years ago. It was there that I had the opportunity to really get to know Jack and share in his stories. He was a great man and will be sorely missed by many. May he rest in peace.

In August of 2003 Jack was organizing a reunion for his first special service force comrades in Burlington. He asked Myself and Keith Rice if our Venturer Scouts could volunteer to help out and lend a hand where needed over the three days. It was the most inspirational time with Jack and his comrades the scouts learned so much from them and I myself was very moved by the whole experience. I consider it one of the highlights of my 38 years as a scout leader. He also several times came to our meeting to talk about remembrance day with the youth. He was a fine man, an example to others and I am proud to have briefly known him.

We are sad for our collective loss.
We attended the 76th observance of the end of WWII in Harriston on October 24th this year.
We had the honour of meeting Jack, as Victor Innanen was a fellow FSSF serviceman of his in 1943-44.
Jack was living proof that the members of the First Special Service Force were integral part of the defence of peace and freedom as we know it.
One of our kin, Andrew Knisley, a Canadian armed service member, met Jack and they exchanged a private conversation about wartime.
I enclose a picture of Andrew of Andrew with Jack. Twenty or so Innanens had the pleasure of meeting Jack that day.
Thank you to Jack

My sister Judy and I are first cousins of Jack . We can remember so many special times with Jack. One very special occasion was in 2010 when my husband Rod and I attended the ceremony of the retiring of the regimental colors of Jack's regiment in MacDill Air Force base in Tampa Florida. There were over five hundred military attendees representatives from the Air Force, Navy Seals, Navy, Coast Guard and the Army. We had the pleasure of meeting several of Jack's colleagues. One funny experience was also meeting a beautiful Lieutenant Colonel, her name was Holly whom the boys loved to be photographed with. it was an unforgettable day.
Norma and Doug, our thoughts go out to you on the loss of your father. He will be long remembered as an outstanding Canadian .

My condolences to all of Jack’s family. It was a honour to know him. I had many talks with him and was able to share war stories passed on from my parents with Jack while working at Amica. He was born the same year as my mother who passed on 2014. He was a wonderful wonderful man. Rest In Peace Jack. Sincerely Laura Martin
