Our deepest sympathy to all the Fitzpatrick family in the loss of this very special man. I first met Bill when Teresa and I were in nursing school and I was invited to their home. My memories of Bill are also of a great dancer always dressed so perfectly .Over the years Teresa would keep me updated as David and Natalie got older, married and had children .I can only imagine what fun the grandchildren would have had with their grandpa. He was always so much fun to chat with always a smile and a laugh. We are so thankful we saw Bill in early summer and were able to have a brief visit outdoors. You are all in my prayers.

My deepest sympathies to Sally, her children (David & Natalie) and grandchildren. It is so hard to lose a loved one, especially one who was part of the family unit. It is even harder when there had been no sign of illness, or anything threatening, until just 4-5 months ago. This has come as a shock to everyone who knew & loved Bill. All we have now are beautiful memories. Hopefully you won't mind me sharing some of mine:
Bill & I didn't go to grade school together as his family lived in old Hamilton whereas we lived on "the mountain" part of Hamilton - although in a modest home. After we met (somehow), and chatted, Bill invited me to his home. Don't recall what grade we were in then probably Gr. 9. Don't recall the time of day, but probably the end of the school day. I do recall seeing a light still turned on - in a lamp, I believe. Seemed odd. Asked Bill if everyone forgot to turn it off. "No", he replied, "my father instructed us all to leave it on all the time as he thinks bulbs burn out faster if turned on & off all the time. That bulb has been working for 12 (I think he said) years." "Wow !", was all I could say. During our conversation, Bill advised that he had been chosen as the standard-bearer (baton or staff bearer) at the front of a parade group (a band or majorettes). He was proud of that. I could see why he had been chosen as he was a tall, dark & handsome guy.
A few years later, he had, apparently, been asked to appear as one of the dancers on a local tv show (CHCH TV) based on the successful "Dick Clark Dance Party" of Philadelphia. He soon called me to see if I was interested (in making a spectacle of myself), too. I was a ham so I said, "Sure !" But there was a catch. "Let's make a pact to each ask a different girl every week !" Bill agreed. What an experience in growing up that turned out to be ! We became fairly well-known at school - even a teacher or 2 would comment about us in class ! The producers soon asked us if we would agree to "model" clothing from local shops. We agreed, so would switch into the store's shorts & shirts and, during intermission, stand where directed. Then we started to wear those clothes for the remainder of the filming of that particular episode as they told us to keep the clothes ! At times, entertainers (singers) would appear as special guests & perform their latest single. Pretty cool. Once the guest was Jackie Shane from the Toronto blues scene. S/he had a hit with "Any Other Way." We had never heard of a "trans" person, so it was pretty shocking to see what appeared to be a man wearing such a swath of make-up ! We were quite perplexed. It was I who soon broke the vow of a different girl every week, I was sort of smitten by Diane. Bill & I loved to dance. We had to learn new ones as they erupted from the hits - The Twist, The Swim, The Watusi, The Stroll, The Locomotion, The Hucklebuck - the list goes on.
Once that "gig" was over, we searched out C.Y.O. branches that had lots of pretty girls or a great band. I borrowed my family car and we went every weekend all over the City. Had a great time. Often we would end up at his parents place - on or near Herkimer Street - for a beer or two before I headed home. Teresa was there at times. Through Teresa, we met many nurses as well as some of her girlfriends. That also was plenty of fun.
In my recent card to Bill I said that, of all the guys I knew in high school, I definitely did more things with him than with anyone else. We had fun.

I have been blessed with Bill as my premiere cousin. We had to move to Hamilton and Bill’s parents, Phil and Loretta, welcomed us with open arms along with my dad, Joe (Phil’s brother). As teens in the 50’s, we shared humble beginnings on Elgin Street where four boys slept on one mattress: Bill, Jim(Bill’s brother), my brother Larry and me. Weeks later we moved directly across the road.
Bill was always so eager to please and he regularly entertained us with his tap dancing and batons. He was always on the podium accepting contest trophies.
Bill was standing way above an ‘Outstanding Family Man’
His days were happily spent conjuring up actions he could perform that would facilitate the lives of his loved ones.
I sincerely believe that Bill, in Heaven, will always be ‘hacking’ into our thoughts to ensure we select the proper roads to travel.
We offer our deepest condolences and sending our love to Sally, David, Natalie & families and Teresa, Jim and families

Mr Fitzpatrick was a very special man. He was incredibly dedicated to his family and always generous with both his time and his home. I have so many great memories that he is a part of - be it road trips to out of town basketball games, making homemade Ninja Turtle Halloween costumes at his kitchen table or Mr and Mrs Fitzpatrick taking pictures of us in our prom dresses before heading out for the big dance. He will be remembered always and I send my love and thoughts to Natalie, Sally and the rest of your family. xo

Dear Sally and family, I remember Bill as teenagers, we had a lot of fun and laughter! He would always bring a box of Kleenex over to me if we were watching any sentimental show at the Fitzpatrick’s residence on Elgin street! He knew at some time that I would be crying! Then Bill driving us all around in his dad’s “holy car” inside joke! Watching Bill on T.V. Club 11 Bill was a great dancer! It was fun watching and I think he invited me once to join him. Very fond memories for all of us! My sincere heart felt condolences to Sally, Natalie, David, Teresa, Jim senior and to all the grandchildren, cousins of both the Fitzpatrick’s and Farrauto families! Bill will be in my daily prayers! Love Phyllis Dwyer ( McGowan)

Bill... I wish I could have been half the brother to you that you were to me. You were always there for me; leaving work to pick me up at the train station, spending New Year's Eve at Toronto Airport waiting for my flight from Europe, bailing me out of so many other predicaments I would get myself into. I am feeling much sadness for Sally, Natalie, David, all your grandchildren, and of course Teresa and myself. You left us far too early. You are missed. Rest in peace, brother and I will catch up with you down the road.

I feel so blessed to have so many fond memories of “Uncle Bill”. As a child, a pre-poured glass of milk and having to eat mushrooms were never my favourite part of dinner, but the delicious sloppy Joes, root beer floats and incredible Thanksgiving dinners more than made up for it. Whether it was, babysitting help with school projects, my university and teacher’s college applications or delivering a dozen apples to my door, he showed incredible kindness and generosity. Uncle Bill, I will cherish my memories of you smiling at the soccer field and family gatherings forever and am proud to have been your niece.
To the Fitzpatrick family, may your hearts be filled with wonderful memories of the joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Take comfort in knowing that anyone who met Uncle Bill knew what wonderful and respectful man he was. May loving memories bring you peace, comfort and strength, today and always.
Sincerely,
~Lisa La Mantia

As a young girl, I used to think “Wow, cousin Bill sure did get more than his share of the Fitzpatrick ‘handsome’ gene!” But mostly I’ll remember him as a sweet man with a gentle soul and an easy laugh…
RIP Bill, until we meet again.
Love and hugs to Sally, David, Natalie, Teresa, Jim and families - may your cherished memories help you navigate the days ahead, and may your faith lend comfort that one day you will hear Bill’s easy laugh once again…
