Obituary of Charles (Chuck) Halcrow

HALCROW, Charles (Chuck) December 10, 1923-April 12, 2010 Passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Marie Helen (Hendricks) for 63 years. Loving father to Sheila (Larry) Cherriere, Lynda (Greg) Iovacchini and Brenda (Cecil) Norman. Predeceased by sons Ken (1975) and Gord (2007). Grandfather to Amanda Cherriere and Cecil and Ivy Norman. Special Great-Grandpa to Tanisha. Survived by brothers Peter (Jean) and Fred (Greta). Predeceased by brothers John and Harry and sisters Georgina, Eleanor and Barbara. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends. Chuck was very proud to be the first child born in Canada to John and Elizabeth, who immigrated from the Shetland Isles. Charles served overseas in WW II with the Lorne Scots and the R.H.L.I. Chuck retired from Westinghouse after 38 years. Charles was a kind and gentle man who dearly loved his family and friends. His hobbies were raising pigeons, gardening, recording music and making fine wine. He was also our “Mr.Fix It” man. The family would like to thank the many home care workers as well as the health care workers on the 4th floor of the Hamilton General Hospital for their care and compassion. Great appreciation and thanks also goes to the staff, doctors and volunteers at St. Peter’s Hospital for the special care provided during his stay. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in all of us. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Chuck’s life to take place at Fifty United Church, 1455 Highway 8, Stoney Creek, on Thursday, April 15th at 1:30 p.m. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you remember Chuck through random acts of kindness that would reflect the love and friendship that he shared with others.
