Obituary of Zorka Duvnjak
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Zorka, our dear mother, Baba and Baki on Saturday, August 13 at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice. Zorka was 81 years old. She is predeceased by her husband, Danilo; her parents, Jelisavka and Svetozar; and her eldest sister, Jelica. She is survived by her sister, Stojanka, of Oxford, England, along with her children, Joyce Radojka (Ray Rikic) and John Jovan (Kasia), and her four grandchildren: Daniel (Chabely), Julia, David and Sophia. Zorka was born in the village of Donji Malovan in Bosnia (former Yugoslavia). In the aftermath of WWII, Zorka emigrated to England in 1955 to join her father and then on to Canada in 1958 to marry Danilo. They celebrated 43 years of marriage until Danilo’s passing in 2001. Zorka enjoyed being a mother and, equally, a grandmother, lovingly supporting her children and grandchildren, grateful to be able to watch them grow. We thank the oncology and medical teams who enabled her to stay in her home as long as she did: Drs. Duboff and Kumar-Tyagi; community care nurses Rachel, Anne and Erin. Family and friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Wednesday, August 17 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Pomen 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Fathers Radovan Kodic and Dejan Obradovic officiating. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Zorka’s memory to the Cancer Assistance Program and/or the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice to help those families who may follow us.
