Obituary of Dorothy DesRoches

June 10, 1929 - September 19, 2022

It’s with profound sadness that we announce the death of Dorothy DesRoches (Prince, nee Tilston), peacefully in her home at Amica Stoney Creek. Dorothy was born and raised in Hamilton and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ben, her loving parents, Dora and Thomas Tilston, and her wonderful brother, Norman. Dorothy was a secretary in several offices in both Hamilton and Toronto over the course of her lifetime and retired from her last position with The United Steelworkers of America. She was a lifetime union and NDP supporter. When she was able, she enjoyed attending The Anglican Church of our Saviour the Redeemer in Stoney Creek. In addition to the services, she sang in the choir and received great pleasure from the Bible studies, trivia sessions and pub nights at the church. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Lillian (Casey) and her children Kathy (Gord), Frank (Fran) and Joan (Rick). She will also be missed by her six grandchildren: Jason (Christine), Christopher (Charlene), Sharon (Bret), Chelsey (Tyler), Meagan (Ryan) and Bianca (Kennedy). Dorothy leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Tala, Gavin, Yara, Alex, Dawson, Cloey, Cody (Courtney) and Natasha, in addition to two great-great grandchildren: Dylan and Colin. Dorothy also had many other family and friends who will be saddened by her loss. The family would like to thank the staff of Amica Stoney Creek for all the care and attention that they have given to Dorothy over the past few years, and also The Reverend Canon Bahman Kalantari of her church for his inspiration, kindness and friendship. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at The Church of our Saviour the Redeemer, 25 Lake Avenue S., in Stoney Creek on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Private family interment will follow at a later date.
At the request of the family, masks will be required at all of the above events. Due to Covid, we will forego post-service refreshments, and thank you for your understanding.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Church of our Saviour the Redeemer or to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto would be very much appreciated.
