Gordon Mason

Obituary of Gordon Frederick Mason

With his family by his side, we announce the passing of Gord (Junior) in his 86th year. He was a proud and loving father to Vicky Martin, Roger, Greg and Richard. He was a cherished grandfather to Jason (Mahshid) Martin, Jessica Martin (Shawn Sampson), Matthew and Bradley and great-granddaughter Charlotte Sampson. Gord was predeceased by his beloved sister Betty Crawford, his parents Gordon and Emma Mason and Joanne Mason the mother of his children. Gord is survived by his sister Elaine (Harold) Rutherford and brother Jeff (Judy) Mason. He will be missed by nieces and nephews, Paul (Patti) Rutherford, Mike (Joan) Rutherford, Dan (Margaret) Crawford, Susan Crawford, Laurie (Noel) Pauli and Julie Mason. Gord was born in the rural area of Plaster Rock, NB. With the lack of opportunities available in his hometown, he packed his bags and moved to Ontario in 1957. He worked for Quigley Construction and learned the skills required to run heavy equipment. He was ambitious and had the desire to start his own business. Gord purchased an old loader and single axle dump truck and opened GF Mason Excavating in 1967. The business flourished and in 1980 he opened G Mason Construction and Mason Carriers with his sons. He was a self-made man now leaving this legacy to his children to carry on. Gord was very well known in the community. He had a magnetic personality and a unique sense of humour. Gord had a passion for classic cars and entertained many friends and customers with his showroom collection. The family would like to extend special thanks to Charlene Daye who tirelessly cared for Gord so he could remain at home for as long as possible. Thanks also go to the staff at Summit Heights Retirement Home and the Hamilton General Hospital on Ward 7 South for the wonderful care he received. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
