Obituary of Madeline (Madalena) Triolo
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in her 94th year, at Villages of Wentworth Heights, Hamilton, with family by her side. Madeline is now reunited with her husband Giuseppe (Joseph) (2014), her parents and her brother Mario (1963). She is lovingly remembered by her sister Andrea Budge (Duncan), her daughter Anne Dunham (Craig), their children Andrew (Leigh), Robert (Caitlin), Matthew (Fabiana), her son Joseph Triolo (Katherine Smith-Walker), and her grandchildren Isabella (Chris), Joseph Jr., Michael, and their mother Toni Triolo.
Madeline was a very intelligent woman, having skipped both grade 2 and grade 7. After high school she continued with night school courses at Western Business School in Toronto. She became the executive secretary to the Vice President at Simpson Sears and then at Consumer’s Distributing. She was one of the first users of the Comptometer and the Friden Calculators in the early 1950s. She and husband Joe were grape growers in Niagara-on-the-Lake for over 30 years and won several awards in the Amateur Vintner’s Club. Madeline was very active in the Grape Action Committee, promoting Ontario wines. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and shared that heritage with her family.
She was a strong and compassionate woman and everyone who came into contact with her left feeling that their lives were a little bit brighter. Madeline was always thinking about her family and others, giving of her time and knowledge. Those who knew her for any length of time felt like part of her family. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her, especially her dear friends Lucy P, and Mary O.
The family would like to thank the intervenors from the CNIB Deaf and Hearing Loss program. You were instrumental in helping Madeline, being her “eyes and ears”. To all the staff at Villages of Wentworth Heights, there are not enough words in the world to fully thank you for the care and love you showed Madeline these past three years. You treated her as family and she loved and appreciated you all. You truly were her angels.
