Obituary of George Watson
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Watson on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the age of 91. Predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Marina Watson. Dearly loved and cherished father of Colleen (Jim) Tougher, Thomas (Carol) Watson and Martin Watson. Beloved grandfather of Hannah and Emily Watson. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Emily Watson and brothers William, Hill, Thomas, James and sister Hannah. He will be sadly missed by his brother Ussher in Northern Ireland. He will be missed by many friends and family in both Canada and Northern Ireland.
George was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on October 27, 1932. He lived and worked in Belfast until he immigrated to Canada in 1957. He met his wife Marina in Canada and they raised three children together. George was a long time employee of the City of Hamilton working as an Operator at the water treatment plant. George was a lifelong active member of the Loyal Orange Lodge, No. 2123 Hamilton. He was a long time member of St. Columba Presbyterian Church and later a member of MacNab St. Presbyterian Church. George was a kind and generous person who was well liked by all who met him. He was concerned about the environment and one year he won Environmentalist of the Year in Hamilton. He loved all animals but especially his cats he had throughout the years. He loved going home to Northern Ireland to visit his family and friends. George played soccer both in Northern Ireland and Canada for many years and enjoyed watching the English Premier League and his favourite golfer Rory McIlroy.
Many thanks to the various PSW’s who cared for George the past few years. Their kindness was much appreciated. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
