Obituary of Allan Alexander Bogash

March 12, 1942 – November 25, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Al at Juravinski Hospital in his 82nd year. With his devoted wife of 55 years laying next to him and his daughters by his side, Al passed after living 20 years with Parkinsons. Al is predeceased by his brother Joe (who passed before Al was born), mother Nellie, father Alex, sister Gaye and nephew Kevin.

Al was born in Flin Flon MB where his love of hockey was nurtured in the rinks and the streets, cheering for the Montreal Canadiens from the time he was 9 years old. As a young man he worked for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting for 4 ½ years before coming to Hamilton in 1965 for a holiday. After being in Hamilton for a few days, he thought there had to be a better place to work than the tank house in Flin Flon and decided to stay. The fact that he had met a pretty lady named Shirl may have had something to do with him staying as well. Al proceeded to get a job at Dofasco where he worked for 41 ½ years and made many friends throughout his time there. These friendships continued after retirement with lunches with ‘the guys’ and dinners at Mandarin with ‘The Coffee Club’. Every year Al would pack up the car with family in tow and drive out west where we would have the most enjoyable visits with both sides of the family. Al would also enjoy beers on the front porch with his two longtime neighbours who had also become good friends. Al will be remembered for his dry sense of humour, mischievous antics, love of classic country music and being an avid whistler. We love and miss you.

He is survived by his wife Shirl, daughters Christine (Derek) and Lydia (Mark), sister Emily in Edmonton, and many cousins, nieces and nephews in NS, MB, SK, AB and BC. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations are welcome to Parkinson Canada.
