Obituary of Jadwiga Cisek-Mandus
In Loving Memory of Jadwiga Cisek-Mandus
Our beloved mother, Jadwiga Cisek-Mandus, passed away on January 17th, 2024, at the age of 101. She was born on August 22, 1922, in rural Poland and was the youngest child of Jan Cisek and Marianna Pawelec. Jadwiga was the cherished sister of Kazimiera, Aniela, and brothers, Stanislaw, Feliks, Andrzej, and Jozef. Being the youngest among them, she held a special place in their hearts. During the Second World War, at the young age of 17, Jadwiga and her sister Kazimiera were sent to a labor camp in Nazi Germany and narrowly avoided Auschwitz. She later became a second lieutenant in the Polish army, serving her country with honor until the war's end.
Jadwiga was a devoted mother and wife to Jan Mandus in Wrocław, Poland, where she raised her two sons, Leszek and Jurek, with love and care. She was a beloved grandmother to Sonya, Maciek, Dominik, and Cezary, and caring mother-in-law to Paula.
Jadwiga enjoyed reading the newspaper and solving crossword puzzles. She had a keen interest in politics and was known for her opinions on political matters. Before her retirement, Jadwiga worked as a switchboard operator in the military and later in the hotel industry. As her health declined, she became homebound.
After the death of her husband Jan in 1997, she joined her sons in Canada in 2003. Surrounded by the love of her family, she received devoted care from her son Leszek for the past 20 years, who ensured her comfort and well-being until her passing.
She embraced each day with gratitude and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Jadwiga touched the lives of those around her. Her memory will forever be cherished by those closest to her heart. May she rest in eternal peace.
