Obituary of Gladys Merle Reardon
Gladys Merle Reardon, surrounded by loving friends, passed into the presence of the Lord on January 31st, 2024, in her 94th year. Glad was born in Australia and moved to Canada to nurse in the north. She was a passionate and skilled nurse and midwife who served various communities in Australia and later in Manitoba, Canada, for many years, as an outpost nurse. She loved to garden, swim and travel.
Glad loved being with people and was a wonderful listener. She was known to her family and her church friends as an exemplary woman of kindness, generosity, and encouragement. She had a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was committed to consistent and sincere prayer for others. Her favourite scripture verse was Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
She is survived by her best and life-long friend, Jenny Ploeg, and Jenny’s family, of whom she was a very special part. Included are: Jenny’s mom Carrie Ploeg; Jenny’s sisters, Margaret (Todd) Morrill and Nancy (Steve) Cipollone; Jenny’s brothers, Jack (Christine) Ploeg and Henry (Jeannie) Ploeg; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind her much-loved Australian family: nieces Carolyn (Steve) Hughes and Janene (Michael) Naylor and her nephews Phillip (Barb) Reardon and Andrew Reardon. Glad was a very special and loved aunt to many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Her regular FaceTime visits with her Australian family were always anticipated with joy.
Our memories with Glad will be cherished, and she will remain forever in our hearts. She was a true gift in each of our lives and she will be greatly missed.
