Obituary of Doreen Ellen Henry

With grateful hearts for her long life, it is with sadness the family announce the peaceful passing of Doreen Henry on January 29, 2024.  This fashionable refined lady had the biggest heart and love for life. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday on October 29, 2023. She will be forever loved and remembered. Doreen’s legacy is her family who was her greatest joy. She is survived by her sons, Craig, who lovingly cared for both his parents in their later years, David (Brenda), and her grandchildren Jill and Kylie.  She was predeceased by her husband Paul, her parents Ellen and George Williams, and her brother Ross. She is survived by her dear sister-in-law Ivy Williams, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Doreen and Paul enjoyed 71 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.

They took great pride in their home and garden where there was always a warm welcome. Doreen sparked a lifelong passion after attending a Royal Botanical Gardens workshop. She quickly became a valued volunteer in the Floral Design Workshop for over 30 years and served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary from 1979-1980. She taught floral and botanical design and was a respected flower judge. She travelled internationally presenting workshops and judging. Doreen, a member of Pioneer Memorial United Church for over 70 years, was active in the UCW (Orion Unit) and along with dear friend Shirley Brooker, arranged the flowers in the sanctuary for many years.

Heartfelt thanks are extended to the caring staff of United Mennonite Home in Vineland ON. and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Grimsby ON. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek.A funeral and Celebration of Doreen’s Life will take place on Saturday May 4^th, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Memorial United Church (1974 King St. E., Hamilton, ON). . As an expression of sympathy, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Royal Botanical Gardens would be appreciated by the family.
