Obituary of Harvey Lionel Hicks

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey Lionel Hicks on Monday, March 11, 2024 at the Hamilton General Hospital.

Harvey is survived by his wife and best friend, Ann, his sons Mark (Kim) and Scott (Lynn). Also survived by his grandchildren Noah, Alex (Neil), Mark, Carly, and Lauren (Mackenzie) and great-grandson Carter. Predeceased by his mother Beatrice, his father Herbert and his brothers Lloyd and Orville.

Harvey was born in Toronto and grew up in west Hamilton. After high school, he became a police officer with the Hamilton Police Service. His career, in which he earned the title of Staff Sergeant, spanned 38 years. During his career he helped establish the Police Association Building in Hamilton and proudly volunteered at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

He was a life-long athlete and avid golfer and curler - hobbies he enjoyed most alongside his best friend, Ann, and his sons. Harvey was a member of Glendale Golf and Curling Club for over 60 years. He was also part of the Ontario Golf Association’s rules official team for over 20 years.

Harvey was a family man who truly enjoyed spending time with his wife, sons and their families. He and Ann travelled extensively during their retirement and lived life to the fullest. He was known as a kind and funny man, an amazing storyteller, and helping hand to anyone who needed it. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. A private family service has taken place. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
