I wanted to share a memory that I have from my childhood as I grew up with Selene and her house was very close to our school so I would see her parents often. My father was from Italy and Selene’s parents from Ireland. One day in soccer, the Italian national club was playing the Ireland national club. And Ireland won, which was not the way the game was supposed to go. Our family home telephone is ringing. Think landline days. I answer it and a woman’s voice asks for Tony. I was a kid and thought nothing of it and gave the phone to my dad. All of a sudden he starts laughing. It was Selene‘s mom Joan giving us a call to ask my dad how he felt about Italy losing to Ireland. They had a good laugh over the phone call and that was that. Our parents would see each other at school or birthday parties, but they didn’t hang out and that phone call made my dad day. I still think about that. To my friend Selene and the Moran family I am very sorry for your loss. The Ireland national team has an angel on their side.
