Obituary of Walter Kohlberger
October 3, 1933 – April 17, 2024
Walter died peacefully in his 90th year on Wednesday April 17, 2024, surrounded by his family at Hamilton General Hospital. Walter was predeceased by his brother Karl, and son Ward. Walter leaves behind his wife Linda Ruth Grant, his remaining four sons, Norman, Kent, Wayne, and Jason, sister Trudy, stepson Robert Scott, mothers of grandchildren: Rosina, Marcee and Vanessa, grandchildren Morgan, Giovanni, Maria-Sofia, Zoe, Isla, and Ronin.
Walter was born in Austria and arrived in Canada by ship in 1953. He was quickly acknowledged as a skilled tradesman, then founded a successful construction company building residential homes in Grimsby and the surrounding area. Walter later started Colonial Pillars, a manufacturing business in Stoney Creek with his son Ward, which they expanded over the next 30 years.
Walter will be well remembered as a strong father and loving husband. He will also be dearly missed by his lifelong friends and neighbours. In his retirement years, he especially enjoyed sailing and the friendship of fellow sailors at Fifty Point Yacht Club. In addition, his long-standing involvement with the Union Lodge - Masonic brothers will be forever remembered.
Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 11 a,m, in the Funeral Home Chapel.
