Obituary of Lona Dykshoorn

In loving memory of Lona (Lone Liselotte), with saddened hearts we announce her peaceful passing on April 24, 2024, in her 80th year. The remarkable woman she was, with the biggest heart and love for life, will be forever remembered.

Born on November 6, 1944 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Lona then moved to Elliot Lake, Ontario in 1957. She met her beloved husband Paul Dykshoorn in Hamilton, where they both worked at Eatons, and married in 1967. Lona became a loving mother to Tanya Ciciretto (Mike) and Trevor Dykshoorn, later turned to cherished grandmother by Aleah and Cleo. Lona is predeceased by her parents, Inger & Jens and sisters, Vibeke, Eva, and Lillian. She will be dearly missed by nieces, nephews, friends, and all who had the pleasure to be close to her. Lona undoubtedly leaves behind a legacy of love, joy and adventure.

Lona was always passionate about her family and dear friends; she took great joy in hosting get-togethers in which music, dancing and games were ever-present. She never missed a milestone or birthday – they were always acknowledged with a visit, phone call or card. Lona was incredibly involved and supportive in watching her children and grandchildren pursue their goals and interests. She took great pride in many hobbies, such as gardening, baking sweet treats, and sewing/knitting – especially for her family and charitable donations. She was an active member of the Optimist Club of Hamilton and volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years. With her joyous disposition, passionate nature and contagious smile, she lit up every room she walked into.

Lona had an adventurous spirit and playful nature – exemplified through many years of camping and travelling around the world with Paul, family and friends. She instilled that passion in her children and grandchildren and it will remain a part of her legacy. With countless precious memories, we find peace that Lona’s body is finally at rest with her extraordinary spirit.

Visitation will be held at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home located at 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. The family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada and Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Lona.
