I knew Don very well while he was a member at Kings Forest Golf Club. The memory that still stays with me was Don dropping off clubs to be regripped when I wasn't home, so he opened the door to put inside and my golden retriever on guard duty, licked his hands! Why got a good laugh about that. Don was a classy, nice gentleman. Sincerest Condolences to the family. Dave Bryce

Dear Cathy, Jeff and Cheryl
Molly, Tom and I (Veronica) send our deepest sympathy to you and your families in the great loss of your Dad
Don was like a brother to us since you all lived on Glennie Ave. I use to babysit our brother Ron's kids almost every weekend when your mom and Dad would go out together with Ron and Merle, back in the 60's Yikes. It seemed like Don and Ron were siamese twins, they had so much in common, snooker, fishing, partying and singing. They would always finish each others sentences and even word for word in conversations.
We just want you to know it was such a pleasure knowing your dad.
Sending our love
Molly, Tom and Veronica.

I had the pleasure of knowing Don first as my grandpas best friend. They would play snooker and fish together and he has always been a presence in my life. After my grandpa passed, Don took on a caring and supportive role with my grandma (Meryl) and they became the sweetest of companions for the better part of two decades. I remember my grandma calling to talk about Don with me and she would gush about their dates, going out to dinner, getting groceries, just enjoying each others company. Don would share stories from his younger years with us grandkids and always included the fun things he and our grandpa would do.
Don was such a wonderful “big poppa” to my kids, making them tackle boxes and taking them fishing. Talking to my bigger kids about his portable wee boat. He loved fly tying, and even made us girls earrings using the same technique, “who knows, maybe I’ll start a new trend” he said with a laugh.
Don was a wonderful grandpa to my cousins and I, and the best great grandpa to our kids. I am so grateful for his presence in my life, because although he wasn’t my grandfather by blood he was my grandfather by heart and had a significant impact on my life.

Even though we didn't share a drop of blood I have always thought of Donny as my grandfather. He has been a member of the Hodson family for going on 20+ years. My biological grandfather died when I was very young; Don began to see my grandmother Meryl a number of years afterward. He has been present in my life since I was about 9.
In his heart of hearts I don't think he wasn't a hugger as he would always initially greet with an outstretched hand; but, with a quick swat away he would open his arms to me every time, even as a grown man. He shared his passion of fly fishing and tying with me since a young age, something I still enjoy today. I still have the beginner vice setup he gave me, along with a vast collection of miscellaneous animal furs and feathers stuffed into neatly folded envelopes, as well as rods and reels that I continue to use to this day.
Don loved to stay in the know with the goings on of the Hodson family. Anyone in our family knew the grandma Hodson weekly (or daily) phone call; one that Donny would often follow in tow. We spoke often while I was still attending university, mainly about sports (Blue Jays especially) or new fly patterns. I celebrated many academic victories with him over the years, he always was honest in his desire for me to succeed. When I was studying in Hamilton we would go out for lunch often and shoot pool from time to time. I never did wind up beating him!
Don filled a massive void in our family and did so ardently. I am a better person for him being in my life. Thank you Don, for being there for me and the rest of my family over those many years. May you rest in peace.
