Obituary of Barbara Caroline Maradin

(nee Krkuc)

Barbara passed away peacefully with her children by her side at Arbour Creek Care Centre on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the age of 85. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karen Parker (Nelson) and son Paul (Adriana). She took great pride in her grandchildren, and was the cherished grandmother of Allison, Brett, Luigi, and Leah. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Caroline and Peter, sister Shirley, and brothers Peter and John. She is survived by dear sisters-in-law Rita and Joan. She will be fondly remembered by many extended family and friends.

Barbara was born in Timmins, Ontario on September 23rd, 1939. She was hard-working and determined to help care for her family at a young age. She was a dedicated homemaker when her own children were young, and her passion for working with people led her to careers in retail and real estate. Barbara took immense pride in her Croatian heritage, as an active member of the Croatian National Home. She loved singing, dancing, and playing her tambura, and travelled to many folklore festivals with the Lado Tamburitzans. She was a devoted member of the Canadian Croatian Choral Society, and was involved in the group’s performance tours to Croatia, where the choir notably sang for Pope Francis. She enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren, watching them participate in sports and activities. Family traditions were important to Barbara, where she was known for her delicious baking and home-cooked meals. She enjoyed her daily walks at Confederation Park and her love of history and travel took her to many places across the world. The family wishes to thank the staff of Arbour Creek Care Centre for their compassionate and professional care.

Visitation will be held at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday, October 27th from 1-4 p.m. Cremation has taken place, and a private family burial ceremony will be held at a later date.
