VOLCANSEK, Karl
With great sadness the family of Karl Volcansek of Stoney Creek announces his passing at the age of 74 on June 7, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospital, from complications due to cancer. He was born on September 3, 1936 in the village of Cundrovec outside Brezice, Slovenia. The son of farmers Franc and Terezija, he is survived by his twin brother Vlado of Cundrovec. Predeceased by brothers Ivan, Franc, Alojz and sister Zinka. Survived by friend and ex-wife Milena, daughter Susan Davies (Simon), sons Anton (Julie), Gregory, and Mark (Julija). Stari ata will be missed by six beloved granddaughters, Illyria, Alana, Bronwyn, Beatrix, Gwyneth, and Hollace. Karl was a carpenter by trade, and his many hobbies included gardening and church activities. He was an active member of the Slovenian community at St. Gregory the Great Parish. Their friendship and support was a constant source of comfort and strength. He leaves behind many treasured friends and relatives in Canada, the U.S., and Europe. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Friday, June 10th from 2-7 p.m. Vigil Prayers at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory the Great Slovenian Church (Delawana and Centennial Parkway, Hamilton) with Father Drago Gacnik officiating on Saturday, June 11th at 10 a.m. Interment at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery (Mud St. in Upper Stoney Creek). In lieu of flowers, Karl requested that consideration be given to a cause close to his heart, making the cure for leprosy more available. Donations can be made to Leprosy Relief Canada.
