Obituary of Mary Wiebe
Peacefully, at home on March 23rd at the age of 82, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Mary will be sorely missed by her husband of 62 years Jack, son Michael and daughter-in-law Lee Anne, along with numerous honourary family members from coffee at the kitchen table over the last 40+ years. Pre-deceased by her parents Rudy and Vera Kostial. Mary was born in Czechoslovakia and came to Camden Ontario with her parents at age 6. After excelling at school, Mary joined Bell Canada where she retired as a business office manager. Before and during her retirement she volunteered with various charitable organizations, was on the executive of parent-teacher councils, served as a returning officer for Elections Ontario and was constituency secretary for a Member of Parliament. She was a founding member of several citizens’ committees and served a three year term as a Hamilton Port Authority director. While Mary was a long-time resident of the former City of Stoney Creek, her political influence spanned municipally, provincially and federally. Visitation will be held at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. A private family funeral will take place at a future date. The family would especially like to thank Mary’s family physician Dr. Szereszewski; Dr. Shaw and the Juravinski Symptom Management Team; Dr. Cividino at HHSC; and Anne Doherty, Marion Frame and the rest of the palliative team at CCAC and Bayshore. A special thanks to Dr. J. Gelberg and the incredible staff at the St. Joseph’s Pleural Space Clinic. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to this wonderful program, which is helping to extend quality of life for people like Mary, or the cancer program of your choice.
