Obituary of Norman Paul Aurini

AURINI, Norman Paul January 12, 1934 ~ May 7, 2016 “The Thing is” was Norm’s opening line to express his views so… The thing is be happy for me because I am at a Family Reunion with my Dad, Luigi (1955), my Mom, Lodovina Rossi (1982) and my sisters Janie (1999) and Perla (2011). Cousins here and in Italy, my amici bevitori from Brightside, friends and colleagues who have gone before me will drop by to have a Coors Lite with me. Farewell to my dear sister, Helen and brother Ken, cousins, nephews and nieces. Without their approval I leave behind my cherished family: my wife of 48 years, Cecile and my daughters, their husbands and grandchildren: Paula (David Onderwater, Christopher and Laura), Janice (Scott Davies, Elise and Rowan). While here I had the privilege of teaching many young men Auto Mechanics at Sir Winston Churchill High School, Hamilton, ON from 1967-1989. The thing is wherever I am now, I will give my knowledge, talent and advice on how to repair or service a car or boat motor, build a house, cottage, furniture, kitchen cupboards, doll house, motorized toy car, models to scale of a saw mill, a house, a cottage and other buildings, clean a cistern, build a working lawnmower from 2-3 discarded ones salvaged from the cottage dump, install hardwood flooring, mend a handle on a free soup mug, catch and gut a fish, cut down a 50’ tree, assemble any toy devised, play pool, win at euchre, repair an eight dollar string of lights in 3-4 hours, put up a Village Christmas display with lights and moving skaters, make an omelette or chili, recycle everything and anything and save for your old age into one’s 80s, etc. Whatever needs to be fixed, made, installed, saved or repaired and whoever needs help, I will be there. One caveat. I will never shingle a roof. Heights are not my thing. Many thanks to our family doctor, Dr. J. Koole and the team of care givers at Juravinski Cancer Centre and our Home Care Nurse, Linda Borger. All who looked after me and helped my family come to terms with my leaving. The thing is…. No more morning coffee. No more morning crossword. No more morning kiss. Please come and Celebrate My Life, probably irreverently orchestrated by my loving family at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday. May 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mission Services, Cancer Assistance Program or the Juravinski Cancer Centre.
