Obituary of Robert Glenn Reimer
Passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour surrounded by his family at the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario on Thursday, January 27, 2022 in his 80th year. Robert Glenn Reimer was born in Steinbach, Manitoba on May 3rd, 1942 to a family of 7 sons and one daughter. Robert married the love of his life, Marlene Doerksen in 1961.
His father Abram founded a successful John Deere dealership, Reimer Farm Supplies in the 1950’s. Robert worked in the family business until the age of 25 and in 1967 made the very difficult decision to leave the dealership and chart his own professional path. He accepted a position with John Deere Ltd. and with a young daughter and two sons (and another one soon to arrive) they moved to Calgary. Over the next nine years the family would live in seven different prairie cities and towns as Robert moved up the corporate ladder. In 1976 Robert was transferred to the newly built John Deere Canadian head office in Grimsby, Ontario. He was promoted to Vice President shortly thereafter and held that position until his retirement in 1997.
Robert was a man of unwavering faith. The first order of business in every move to a new city was to find a church where he and his family could find community and continue to build a rock solid foundation of faith. He faithfully served in his home church wherever that might be, using his gifts of wisdom and leadership to the glory of His Lord. He truly exhibited the Fruit of the Spirit in every aspect of his life.
Though remarkably successful in his career, Robert was infinitely humble and kind. A leader with the heart of a servant. Though he was very ambitious and always competitive, his career did not define him. His heart was always at home. His travels took him away from the family often but the weekends were devoted to family. Summer vacations included camping trips in the Okanagan and guided fishing excursions in Northern Saskatchewan. Memories made and family bonds created. He earned a relatively early retirement at age 55 and delighted in the margin this afforded him to spend time with his grandchildren. In recent years as great-grandchildren came along, he was heard to remark repeatedly at how supremely blessed he was to continue to enjoy life and health so that he could form relationships with this next generation.
His compassion, wisdom, kindness, humility, goodness, and patience will be his legacy, living on through generations to come.
"My eyesight is fading and my hearing is failing but as earthly distractions dim how much clearer and sweeter is the time of prayer". Written by Robert from his hospital bed on January 16, 2022
Loving husband to his soulmate Marlene for 60 years. Provider and cherished mentor to four children; Kimberley (David), Bradley, Scott (Brenda), Corwin (Debbie) and daughter-in-law Jackie. Beloved friend to eight grandchildren; James, Krysten (Matt), and Emily (Cameron); Kyle (Chris) and Joshua; Jacob (Taylor) and Rebekah (Arie); and Candice (Gregg). Adoring playmate to seven great-grandchildren: Casey, Halle and Quinn; Ashton and Ella; Eden; and Levi. He will also be greatly missed by his brothers, sister, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Robert was a respected friend and leader to countless co-workers during his 30-year career with John Deere Limited. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Bodega Sa Grasya or the Mennonite Central Committee, would be appreciated by the family.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
