Mr Illman was a teacher and vice principal at Highview School where I attended from 1959 - 1965. Miss Wilson was my Grade 1 teacher several years before they married. I have fond memories of them both and am saddened they left us at such a young age. Pillars of the community

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Illman. Even after all these years I still think of him as "Mr." I was a student at Linden Park Elementary School from 74-79. I think he was Principal there around 75. My fondest memory of his contribution to Linden Park is Herbie. Herbie was the white and black rabbit that Mr. Illman brought to Linden Park during his time there. Herbie hopped through the halls freely and we the students could by shirts that said "Herbie's Heroes" On weekends we were given the chance to take Herbie home. I was lucky enough to take him home a couple times. I'm sure my parents have pictures in their photo albums of him at home.
I remember Mr.Illman as a stern but fair principal. I wish that I had gotten the chance to know him once I reached adulthood.
My condolences to you and your family during this time. In his roles in education and no doubt within his church family I am certain he touched many lives. May your fond memories of him live on in your hearts forever. Blessings.

How saddened I was to see that Jim had passed away. It was my pleasure to be one of his colleagues in the Hamilton elementary school system and it was there that I developed an abiding respect for this highly principled educator. Jim was someone to whom a novice like me could go to for guidance and support. He defied the passing of time--always the brush cut and youthful spirit--yet the maturity of a wise sage. He will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives he touched. My late husband Lane Hazlewood, also a Hamilton educator, knew Jim and respected him as I did. I rejoice that he will be reunited with his Eleanor. May they both rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord for eternity.

Dear Tim, Graeme & Families:
We share in the grief of the passing of your father.
We talked to him by phone just prior to a new session of chemo. that he was to take and he certainly was very ill but trusting in our God's will.
We have enjoyed the friendship of your mom & dad for many years (Doreen was at Teachers College with Eleanor and both taught in Hamilton, rooming to-gether their first 2 years).
How much we enjoyed their fellowship & friendship when we got to-gether from time to time over many years since. Thoughts of those times hold very special memories for us. You can be assured your dad touched many lives with christian kindness, love and respect.
We will miss your mom & dad very much but rejoice too that they both loved the Lord and are together again in His presence.

Sadness surrounds us at this time, for Tim & Graham and families it is a terrible loss, especially so soon after Eleanor. It is not how long we are here but how we use the time, your parents were dilligent in living a true christian life and set a wonderful example to you both. They will be truly missed by so many family and friends, it was a pleasure to have known them.

Dear Tim and family,
I was saddened to hear of your Dad's death. I remember him fondly every time I think of the times I had working at Viscount Montgomery. His vision and leadership made working there an exceptional experience. I am so glad I was able to spend time with him at a Viscount gathering last winter at the home of Wayne Jessop.
Unfortunately I am in North Carolina at this time and am unable to make his funeral. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
With sympathy,
Julie

I was fortunate to have attended Highview Public School and had Eleanor Wilson as my grade 2/3 teacher in 1958 and Jim Illman for grade 6 in 1962. A number of years ago, I was asked to speak at Mr. Illman's retirement from Viscount Montgomery. It was a very memorable occasion to be able to meet them again after so many years...they hadn't changed at all...Mr. Illman still had a brushcut...and to be able to tell them and the audience what wonderful teachers they were and what a positive influence they had on so many students over the years. They were the epitome of what teachers should be. I notice that Valerie-Dawn Girhiny has also written...she was also a teacher at Highview during those precious times and as she says, The Illman's are now reunited. My condolences to their sons and grandchildren and families...How lucky for you to have had them for parents. May their memories be for a blessing.

From: Ann Elizabeth & Stephen Skelton, I was a first cousin to Eleanor< Jim's wife who passed away last Sept. 2011, I never got to meet Jim & Elna till 3 years ago and Elna searched to find me and when she did she welcomed me with so much love and kindness and so did Jim, we arranged to meet at the Falkland BC Faith Mission Kids Camp where Jim was the Director and it was so obvious his love for the kids camp, we were to fly and be with them and spend a fun 3 weeks at the cottage and our Irish cousins where going to come over from Ireland, but God had other plans and decided to take them home so I will have to wait till it is my time to go to Glory. Rest in Jesus arms. Love you, Steve & Ann Skelton

At this significant time of conflicting emotions we send our prayers and condolences to the family of Eleanor and Jim Illman. Tim and Graeme you were blessed with extraordinarily gifted, beloved and highly respected parents. Your hearts must be overflowing with gratitude for all the special years you spent together as a family. I, too, was blessed as I was a former colleague and friend of both. There are hundreds of students and teachers whose lives were touched in the most meaningful way by their combined skills, wisdom, good humour and caring. As both Eleanor and Jim were individuals of deep and abiding faith you will be comforted to know that they are now together forever and reunited with the ONE to whom they devoted their work and their lives. Indeed, today there is rejoicing in heaven. "Well done thou good and faithful servant[s]". Matthew 25:21

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Jim Illman, a member of the The Faith Mission's Board of Directors and a founding member of Faith Mission Men. Jim was the Secretary of FMM for many years, diligently recording the minutes and keeping many a chairman on track. He was the point man for anyone interested in FMM; the first person one checked in with at the Annual Spring Conference in Grassie; a driving force behind many prayer breakfasts in the Hamilton area, particularly at Cheyne Presbyterian Church; and valued member of the team that put together the Annual Irish Nite. At many events, Jim would eloquently make an appeal for donations to the Memorial Fund which honours deceased Faith Mission Men and is used to support students who work with The Faith Mission (in Canada) during the summer months. Jim is now added to that roll and will be sorely missed by all who knew him and had the opportunity to work with him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his two sons and their families at this time.

Executive Chairman of Faith Mission Men
